The 2024 Candian Grand Prix weekend is just a few days away and ahead of it, Lewis Hamilton has thrown things back to his first victory in F1. Hamilton’s maiden victory in the sport came in Montreal itself at the age of 22 with the McLaren outfit.
Lewis Hamilton made his debut at the pinnacle of motor racing in 2007 with McLaren and his first victory came only in his sixth outing in the sport. While things have been tough for him under the ground effect era, this has not stopped the 39-year-old from looking back at the fond memory.
Hamilton has not won a race in the sport since the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP.
Looking to being back in Montreal. Looking to my first win. 22 years old, my first year in F1, and only my 6th race. It was a real dream come true moment. I had so much support that weekend, and I’ve been feeling that support ever since. Thank you all, especially the ones who’ve been along from the jump.Lewis Hamilton Via Instagram
The seven-time world champion has come up with a heartfelt message ahead of this week’s event. Moreover, he has left no stone unturned in making it known that his maiden victory was an absolute dream come true moment for him in his illustrious career.
Lewis Hamilton determined to close the gap to rival teams
While Hamilton has talked about his first-ever F1 win via an Instagram post, he also recently talked about his desire to move up on the grid with Mercedes. The Brit wants to close the gap in the W15 to the lights of McLaren and Ferrari.
He is currently eighth in the constructors championship with 42 points!
I’m really so happy to see the team’s bringing upgrades, the last three races we’ve had upgrades. This weekend George’s one was a positive as well so I’ll get that next week [Canada]. And hopefully, over the next few races, we have some more and we can just continue to push and close that gap.Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with Planet F1
As things stand Mercedes is the fourth fastest team on the grid, but despite this, the gap to the teams ahead is quite big. Toto Wolff and Co. are expected to bring a few upgrades to Montreal and considering this, it will be fascinating to see how Hamilton and George Russell would perform during this week’s event.
