Lewis Hamilton’s brother Nicolas Hamilton is a British racing driver, currently participating in the British Touring Car Championship. He is recruited under Go-Fix with Autocaid Breakdown, the BTCC franchise of Tony Gilham Racing. Nicolas debuted in the racing campaign in 2015, when he had joined AmD Tuning and then, he moved to ROKiT Racing with Motorbase for a brief stint. As of now, the younger Hamilton brother is 23rd in the Drivers’ Championship in BTCC amongst 27 participants.

Despite his massive achievements in motorsports, Lewis Hamilton’s brother Nicolas Hamilton has a congenital condition that very few know about. The 31-year-old suffers from a type of Cerebral Palsy known as Spastic Diplegia, a neurological condition. In Nic’s case, his Spastic Diplegia has affected his limbs thus causing loss of control over his body movements. Nicolas uses a wheelchair because of his inability to walk from the pain of his neurological condition. Even for his races, he uses a modified racecar to enable him to control it through complex methods despite his Cerebral Palsy.
Why does Lewis Hamilton claim that he is inspired by his younger brother?
No matter the hurdles posed to him because of his congenital neurological disabilities, Nicolas Hamilton has defied all odds to become a motorsports racer. He scripted history as the first disable driver to try out the F1 simulator with help from his older brother Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. The team modified his car with carbon-steel steering wheel and also improvised the pedals to fit Nic’s needs.
Seeing his younger brother’s perseverance, Lewis Hamilton has said time and again that he is inspired by him. Nicolas is one of the seven-time World Champion’s biggest supporters as he tries to make it to most of his Grands Prix to cheer the Mercedes racer on.

The Briton himself once posted about how his doctors, who had evaluated him at birth, had said he would never walk because of his palsy. But now, he can walk to his British Touring Car and has also had experience of driving an F1 simulator for Mercedes. Thus, the 31-year-old has already overcome a dozen of obstacles to reach where he is today, and in no way is he any less than his 7-time World Champion brother who has conquered several odds in Formula 1 as well.
