Lewis Hamilton’s time at Ferrari has been nothing short of a disappointment this year. Hamilton, who was expected to return the Italian constructor to their lost glory, now struggles to even score a podium finish in races. The Briton’s best result this year is only a sprint race win in China, which definitely isn’t enough to write a story on. Hence, as the seven-time champion’s struggles at Maranello continue, Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi raises questions on the former’s thirst for winning with the Scuderia.
Lewis Hamilton has remained humble this year and accepted his shortcomings in performance at Ferrari, especially against teammate Charles Leclerc. The 40-year-old also suffered from multiple missed opportunities to score well, all due to the team’s botched strategy calls.
However, Hamilton is still prepared to rebuild himself and give it his all in his final years in Formula 1 with the Italian constructor. Lucas di Grassi believes that the seven-time champion must be ready to make compromises at the Scuderia if he wants to emerge victorious.
Lucas di Grassi guesses that Lewis Hamilton’s age might be a big factor in his impending success with Ferrari. The 40-year-old needs to have the same hunger to win his eighth title as he had back when he had no championships. Hamilton would also need to compromise in multiple aspects of his life and spend more time on the simulator in order to find the slightest of improvements in the SF-25 car.
I think it has to do with aging, but it also has to do with how hungry he is. How many millions he has in the bank account, how much he really wants a title, is he able to compromise his whole life now the way he used to when he wanted his first title, how much time he spent on the simulator?
Lucas di Grassi told RacingNews365
Di Grassi reckons that one must be prepared to sacrifice a lot in their life if they seriously want to achieve continued success in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton might have a great shot at returning to his winning ways, as he does not have a family that would cause his priorities to shift from F1 to other things.
Still, the 40-year-old finds it difficult to replicate his seven-time championship-winning pace this year with Ferrari. Due to this, the Formula E champion believes that the Briton is not at the peak of his technical abilities despite trying so hard to find improvements.
Being able to sacrifice everything, and as you grow old, you have your family, you made your career, you have other opportunities. So it depends a lot on the psychology of different people, and I’m 100% sure that Lewis is not at the peak in terms of his technical abilities.
Lucas di Grassi added.
Lucas di Grassi still believes Lewis Hamilton to be one of the GOATs in F1
Lewis Hamilton has etched his name in the record books after achieving a highly decorated track record in Formula 1. Many individuals believe that it is too early to write off Hamilton’s chances to succeed this year due to struggles in the early on.

Lucas di Grassi, despite making some bold and harsh statements on the Briton, does not fail to acknowledge the seven-time champion’s racing prowess. Di Grassi has also known the 40-year-old since his early days in karting and junior Formula categories.
Lucas di Grassi iterates that Lewis Hamilton’s struggling pace now doesn’t mean that he isn’t one of the greatest drivers in F1 history. The Brazilian recalled that he grew up with him and raced against him since their childhood days.
As such, the 40-year-old has always been superior in driving on the track and doesn’t easily give up. Even now, it is only a matter of time before Hamilton reconfigures himself and starts to compete at the front of the track against the rivals with Ferrari.
But that does not mean because he’s one of, in my opinion, one of the greatest ever drivers in history. And I grew up with him. So I know him from karting, Formula 3 together, Formula 2 together and Formula 1 together. And people expect a very, very high level from him, but you have to understand that it’s not only about the abilities.
Lucas di Grassi noted
Ferrari has a lot of development pending in order to bolster their position on the track and enable both drivers to start scoring well. The team must find massive grounds for improvement in order to retain Lewis Hamilton’s interest in the team.
Although the Briton is very resilient to hate and poor results, he might start thinking about hanging up the suit early if his career at the Italian constructor seems like a dead end to him. Still, the 2025 season is just a quarter of the way in, as many surprising contingencies can take place for the Italian constructor.
