Cleetus McFarland has been making headlines recently following Greg Biffle‘s tragic death from a plane crash. The 30-year-old has been honoring Biffle’s legacy in NASCAR in more ways than one and is continuing humanitarian works in memory of the late legend. Now, former NASCAR legend Mark Martin applauds McFarland for honoring his friend and appealing to old-school fans as well.
In a recent ARCA Menards Series test at Daytona, Cleetus McFarland carried the message, ‘Be like Biff,’ on the back of his No.30 Ford. This received widespread love and affection from fans worldwide, as even Mark Martin applauds this sweet gesture. Martin, who was responsible for bringing about changes to NASCAR’s championship format, has praised McFarland and his impact on the sport for the old-school fans.
Mark Martin pointed out that Cleetus McFarland was appealing to the core racing fans of NASCAR. Meanwhile, the sport focused on appealing to the blue-collar racing fans and not the old-school ones. Additionally, McFarland was a fun person to be around, which only added to his popularity in recent months.
Cleetus McFarland also remained humble and down-to-earth, which helped him become a star and gain quick popularity. Mark Martin added that he loved what the 30-year-old was doing for the sport as a whole. While Martin did not know McFarland personally, he still did not fail to applaud him for dipping his toes in the big league and continuing to honor Greg Biffle‘s legacy.
That’s who he’s appealing to. That’s our core race fan. And NASCAR got away from appealing, I think, to the blue-collar race fan. And Cleetus is just fun. And he’s real and real down to earth, and he’s fun, and that’s why he’s a star. I love what he’s doing for the sport. I don’t know him personally, but he’s doing great things for the sport. He’s got a huge following, and it’s cool to see him dipping his toe into NASCAR, into the big league.

Mark Martin reveals returning to NASCAR racing ‘not on the top of his list’
Mark Martin was one of the better drivers in the NASCAR community, but was unable to achieve championship victories because of unfortunate events. Despite his lack of championship wins, he remained a loved figure across the motorsport. Denny Hamlin even credited Martin and insisted that he would not mind if he had a career like the latter.

Now, Mark Martin opens up on potentially returning to NASCAR, even as a one-off. The 67-year-old asserted that it had been a couple of years since his full exit. Martin insisted that many people were after him to return to racing at the pinnacle of stock racing. Regardless of the demands, the former star had no intentions to return to the sport, and coming back wasn’t on top of his list either.
It’s been a couple of years, and, you know, they got after me so hard to come and do that race two or three years ago. The fans were saying I needed to do it. Racing isn’t really at the top of my list, but I love what he’s doing for the sport.
Mark Martin noted.
Cleetus McFarland has been continuing to grow in popularity in recent months, and rightly so. He was extremely close to Greg Biffle, and the latter’s loss certainly hit him hard. Though McFarland cannot bring back Biffle, he will continue to be like him in many ways and honor his legacy in the best way possible. He is also gaining popularity for all the right reasons.
