The Hungarian GP saw extreme drama in multiple teams throughout the 70-lap race. Max Verstappen was extremely agitated with Red Bull’s botched race strategy. As a result, there was an exchange of multiple heated words over the team radio. Upon this, Martin Brundle reckoned that the reigning world champion should maintain a more ‘sporting’ legacy in Formula 1.
Max Verstappen had some stern words towards his race engineer and unconventionally showcased his anger on the team radio. Martin Brundle noted that one couldn’t ‘cherry pick’ the good bits of ‘world-class people’. Everything about the top-level people came at a cost and for Verstappen that was his short temper and cold attitude.
I always say that you can't cherry-pick the bits you like about world-class sports people, they come as a package which adds up to their success.Martin Brundle said on Sky Sports.
Additionally, Brundle revealed that he was a big of Verstappen and his performances. However, the Briton wished that the 26-year-old didn’t treat his team and Gianpiero Lambiase in such a manner. The 65-year-old further reflected on the Dutchman’s team radio messages and felt that he should’ve tried to create a ‘sporting’ legacy.
I'm such a fan of Max as a driver and a person, in awe of his talent, but I wish he didn't treat the team like that. His legacy should be more sporting, but we now know the two words, consisting of only seven letters, he would reply to that statement.Martin Brundle added.
Max Verstappen accepts Red Bull ‘lacking’ compared to McLaren
McLaren has come up as the closest competitor to Red Bull in the 2024 season for the constructors’ championship. Milton Keynes needs to quickly work on their form to fend off against Woking’s newfound dominant pace. Upon this, Max Verstappen didn’t hesitate to acknowledge the Austrian constructor’s shortcomings against the papaya-outfit.

Verstappen noted that the team was aware of lacking performance for McLaren and added that Red Bull needed to ‘analyze’ the issues and upgrade the current package.
We know that we’re lacking compared to McLaren and it’s of course not nice, but we have to analyse our stuff, how we can improve our overall package currently. But I don’t think that’s something very easily done, you know?Max Verstappen said, as reported by Formula1.
The 2024 season is extremely exciting for the fans and drivers alike to witness the fierce competition. There hasn’t been this much excitement since the beginning of the ground-effect era. Hence, Red Bull will have to continue to implement upgrades to the RB20 to return back to their winning ways. Verstappen has not won a single race in his last three F1 outings.
