Mercedes’ struggles in the ground-effect era have been prevalent since the beginning of the 2022 season. The Silver Arrows failed to score a victory during the 2023 season, and the victory drought might just extend to this season. Hence, amidst this F1 Presenter, Martin Brundle felt that the entire situation was disappointing for the Team Principal Toto Wolff.
Martin Brundle asserted that Toto Wolff wore his ‘heart on the sleeve’ and showcased his discontent with the team. According to Brundle, Wolff didn’t hesitate to accept the shortcomings of Mercedes in recent times. The 64-year-old added that the Austrian principal blurted out whatever he thought regarding his own and the rival teams.
Toto wears his heart on his sleeve doesn’t he, especially when we catch him just after yet another disappointment in the Mercedes team, He tends to blurt it out, in terms of what he thinks about his own team and other teams.Martin Brundle said on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast (H&T: crash.net).

Moreover, Karun Chandhok declared that Toto Wolff was frustrated regarding the entire performance put forth by Mercedes in the first four races. Chandhok recalled that Wolff came off a tremendous run of success during the Mercedes’ domination era. Hence, these were not the standards that the team principal used to see his team in.
I think they were the comments of a frustrated man, who has come off a tremendous run of success and is again staring at another season, of the team that he co-owns, unlikely to win the World Championship. That's not the standards that he's used to or expects, I think, from the team.Karun Chadhok said on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast (H&T: crash.net).
Karun Chandhok highlighted the disappointing pace difference between Mercedes’ W15 and rival challengers
The W15 was thought of as sticking to a ‘convetional’ path of development after seeing the failed attempts in previous seasons. However, the Mercedes challenger still has stability issues, especially during the high-speeds. Hence, Chandhok recalled the Japanese GP and how the team was still mediocre at best. The team lost time during the first stint and was just a bit better in the next stints.
He [Toto Wolff] said the first stint was terrible and after that, it was not so bad. I looked back at some of the numbers and it's little bit better, but in the first stint, they lost 11 seconds to Sainz in 15 laps, After that, they still lost on average about 0.6 per lap. So it was a little bit better, but not a lot better.Karun Chandhok highlighted.

Apart from this, Chandhok declared how the W15 was way off from matching Red Bull’s pace. The car was 45 seconds off from the leading RB20 of Max Verstappen in Suzuka. Removing the dominant RB20’s, the W15 was still 25 seconds behind the Ferraris. Hence, Brackley needs to look into the issues as soon as possible to score a better finish down the season.
The best Mercedes was 45 seconds off the win but if we take the Red Bulls out of it, they were still 25 seconds behind the best non-Red Bull, which is a huge amount in a Grand Prix.Karun Chandhok said.
Mercedes desperately needs to rediscover their form and work immediately on the issues. As things currently are, Brackley might even lose out to McLaren in the coming races. The Silver Arows might have to end its long journey with Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton with another poor campaign. However, it remains to be seen how things pan out for Toto Wolff’s squad in the coming races.
