Red Bull suffered from numerous controversies throughout the 2024 season. The team also faced issues with performance despite the upgrades over the season. Amidst the trying times, Max Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen also had multiple fallouts with Christian Horner due to varied reasons.

Max Verstappen lifted the curtains on the issues between Jos Verstappen and Christian Horner which seemed to be relaxed now. Verstappen Jr. accepted that there was ‘mud-slinging’ between the two seniors. However, Horner and Verstappen Sr. made up with each other by talking it out in the absence of media.

There was a lot of mud-slinging left and right. Ultimately, what matters is that you solve it together and not in the media – and that worked out. My father and Christian too. You have to talk about it with each other and that’s what they did.

The issues between the two were to such an extent that the 27-year-old was rumoured to leave the team. As a result, Verstappen reckoned that such issues were never nice for the team. Subsequently, the reigning champion suggested Red Bull to continue working as a team and leave the petty issues beside.

It’s never nice for the team, not for anyone and certainly not for himself [Horner]. Ultimately, you have to continue as a team. We have to focus on performance. Ultimately, that’s what you’re paid for – everyone in the team.

Max Verstappen built a ‘very strong’ bond with Christian Horner

Max Verstappen applauded Christian Horner for sticking around despite the issues and resolving them internally. The Dutchman highlighted that Horner could have not taken involvement in the matter and speak publicly. However, the team principal’s actions helped the individuals to form a strong bond with each other.

He stayed, and in the end, I think we built a very strong bond with the whole team – and Christian. You can quickly say that you wash your hands of it and don’t get involved. But in the end, you also owe a lot to each other in the team and you have to go through that storm with everyone.

Max Verstappen noted

Red Bull continued to score well despite the struggles and stayed strong as a team. Milton Keynes has time before the 2025 season to work on the issues and ensure they do not repeat again. The team will aim at deeming a much better start to the upcoming season in Formula 1.
