Red Bull had started the 2024 season in a great fashion following up on the highly dominant 2023 campaign. However, the team started losing out on major performance and suffered multiple losses. Upon this, Max Verstappen opened up and reckoned that he trusted the team to showcase a better performance.
Max Verstappen hasn’t hesitated to point out the issues that Red Bull has faced this year. The Dutchman had previously mentioned following up on the dominant 2023 performance would be difficult for the team. However, the 26-year-old currently faces extreme competition from the rivals on the track.
As a result, Verstappen noted that he trusted and hoped the team would have more advantages. However, the reality was different as the Dutchman pointed out that he was fighting with the drivers on the track a lot. Regardless, the 26-year-old was acquainted with the driving style of everyone on the grid and didn’t find a lot of challenges accustoming to it.
Of course, I trusted and hoped that we would have a little more advantage, but this is it. Lately I've been fighting quite a lot with other drivers on the track, but I obviously know who's personal driving style is what. It's like that in all sports, isn't it?Max Versatppen said, as reported by formula.hu
Max Verstappen claimed it was ‘unrealistic’ to be as competitive as the 2023 season
The 2023 season witnessed one of the greatest performances from Red Bull which enabled Verstappen to shatter multiple records. However, the 26-year-old didn’t hesitate to accept that being as competitive as the previous season was unrealistic. Additionally, the Dutchman noted that he enjoyed the previous season and wanted to have a similar performance again.
I really enjoyed last year, but I knew for a fact that we would never have another season like that. I mean, I thought it was unrealistic for us to be that competitive again, so I was prepared for that.Max Verstappen added
Red Bull has continued to implement multiple upgrades since the beginning in hopes of improving performance. However, the team is constantly losing ground to McLaren and rivals in the championship standings. Hence, the remainder of the season will be used to take learnings for the coming season as well as improve performance this time around.
