On 1st May 2024, Red Bull Racing made an announcement of Adrian Newey’s departure from the team at the start of the next season. The ace of Red Bull, Max Verstappen would have of course wanted the chief technical officer to stay. 

Adrian Newey has been part of Red Bull Racing for almost 19 years, he’s been the master behind the several mighty challengers that the team has built. His designs are made to dominate, and he’s also played a huge role in the wins Max Verstappen has amassed in the last three years.

While Verstappen is not thrilled about Newey’s departure, he’s supportive of it.

I would’ve of course Adrian to stay, but at the end of the day also and that’s also what I said to Adrian, you know you have to do what you think is the best for yourself. Because at the end of the day, F1 is a bit of a shark tank you know? And I think it’s very important that you do think about yourself, that you make the right decision for yourself and your family, so I don’t blame him If someone wants to leave, you go and pursue other goals that’s absolutely fine.

After Newey’s Red Bull F1 exit, he is set to work on the development of the Austrian outfit’s first-ever hypercar, the RB17. Till it’s finished he will step away from his F1 duties. Amidst all this, he’s been linked with a potential move to Ferrari or Aston Martin for the upcoming years.

F1 Pundit reports Red Bull employees are content with Adrian Newey’s exit

After the news of Adrian Newey’s departure was made official, many wondered that the root cause of it would be perhaps the controversy surrounding Christian Horner and the ongoing unrest at Red Bull. However, according to Sky F1 pundit, Craig Slater, there are more reasons than what can be seen on the surface.

While talking about the same he had the following to say.

There are some in the design office who are quite pleased that he is moving on. They found his working methods capricious and now they have the chance to prove that it isn’t all about Adrian Newey. But there is a deeper history to this, and we shouldn’t all put the reasons for the departure down to the controversy surrounding Christian Horner at the moment.

Adrian Newey is known as one of the main driving forces behind Red Bull’s success. Now that he is set to part ways with the team, those who worked under the design department might be happy, as now they will get the chance to prove their worth and potential. Newey himself had claimed that now it’s time to hand down those responsibilities to others and give them a chance.
