Max Verstappen emerged victorious at the Emilia Romagna GP despite facing an extremely difficult weekend. Red Bull faced multiple issues with the challenger which saw the Dutchman almost lose out to McLaren’s Lando Norris. Regardless, Verstappen managed to score a race win but faced his fair share of difficulties on track.
Max Verstappen was vocal regarding the issues he faced during the initial practice sessions in Italy. Additionally, the Dutchman also shared his discontent with the car as it was extremely difficult to drive. Hence, after the race, the reigning world champion added that his body took a heavy toll. The 26-year-old claimed that he was ‘broken’ because of the bumpy Imola circuit.
I'm just broken from the bumps, to be honest, It's not so much from the physical side of things, but it was just so bumpy out there.Max Verstappen said, as reported by racingnews365.com.
Verstappen asserted that after only 20 laps he started feeling the effect of the bumpy roads around the Italian circuit. He could feel all the bumps taking a hit on his back which pained him further. Hence, the race winner was looking forward to laying in bed and taking proper rest from the excruciating weekend.
Already after like 20 laps, I could really feel my back. So I'm just looking forward to laying in bed, maybe take some painkillers, and a massage, I don't know.Max Verstappen added.
Max Verstappen claims Red Bull was not ‘on top of things’ in Imola
Max Verstappen and Red Bull enjoyed a highly untouched and dominant campaign in the 2023 season, courtesy of the mighty RB19. Hence, the team was expected to showcase a similar performance this time around. However, the Austrian outfit has already lost out on two races out of the seven that have taken place. Hence, the Dutchman reckoned that this year was his best performance keeping in mind all the other factors.
The way Red Bull managed to turn things around after a difficult start to the Italian weekend was reassuring. The 26-year-old added that things started looking positive after the qualifying session where he matched the late f1 legend, Ayrton Senna‘s consecutive pole position record. However, the team wasn’t ‘on top things’ for the main race due to Verstappen’s struggles on the hard compounds.
I would say definitely this year, in terms of how we managed to turn things around. I do think from qualifying onwards, it all looked a bit more normal. But maybe we were still not on top of things for the race because on the hard tyres, for sure, something was not optimised.Max Verstappen concluded.
Hence, Red Bull will work over the issues they faced in Italy and return to scoring much better performances. The team has minimized errors and taken an early lead in the 2024 constructors’ championship. However, the rival teams have been constantly closing the gap and thus, will surely showcase a great battle in the upcoming events.
