Red Bull has officially declared Christian Horner‘s departure from the Formula 1 team with immediate effect. The Englishman led the team in the pinnacle of motorsport for over two decades before being axed. Milton Keynes’ ever-so-worsening form, coupled with Horner’s problematic personal issues, caused the imminent exit of the 51-year-old. Now, Max Verstappen‘s long-time manager, Raymond Vermeulen has finally broken silence on the matter as the former continues to remain the epicenter of incessant rumors of to exit from the team.
Some reports had suggested that Max Verstappen was looking to get Christian Horner removed from Red Bull. Moreover, rumors about Verstappen exiting Milton Keynes and looking to join Mercedes followed due to the team’s deteriorating form. Now, with Horner’s sudden departure, Raymond Vermeulen, shared the 27-year-old’s role and his side of the story in the matter.
Vermeulen asserted that Max Verstappen and Co. were informed about the team’s decision well in advance. As such, it was up to the team now to openly discuss the matter and reveal the reasons behind Christian Horner‘s sacking. As for Verstappen, he wouldn’t want to delve into the petty politics of running a team and instead focus on his championship ambitions this year.
We were informed in advance about this decision by Red Bull management. It’s up to Red Bull to expand on why they did this.
Raymond Vermeulen told Telegraaf.nl
He further clarified that the driver’s priority lay in the performance side of Red Bull and not the leadership changes. Although Jos Verstappen and his recent quarrel with Horner might have pushed the team to further snub the team principal, the 27-year-old had no part in it. This meant that nothing changed in terms of goals and ambitions to achieve the drivers’ title this year for the four-time champion.
We continue to focus on the sporting side and are looking for more performance so we can return to the top. In that sense, nothing changes.
Raymond Vermeulen added
Red Bull hopes to retain Max Verstappen following Christian Horner’s exit
Red Bull must have been provided with a decision to choose either between Max Verstappen or Christian Horner. One has led the team through thick and thin for the past 20 years, but was somewhat problematic in the recent years. As for Verstappen, he is currently one of the greatest drivers on the F1 grid who has many more years of championship fuel left in him. Thus, Milton Keynes took so long to finally decide on snubbing the 51-year-old.

However, Horner’s exit is done and dusted as Red Bull could now focus on bigger things. According to AMuS, the Austrian outfit hopes to avert the crisis of Max Verstappen leaving the team anytime soon following the Briton’s exit. Moreover, with Sebastian Vettel‘s return to a leadership role in Milton Keynes being rumored, Verstappen could play the waiting game and hope for massive changes to the team. The alleged power struggle between Helmut Marko and the team principal has been solved, with the 82-year-old likely gaining more influence.
It wouldn’t be easy for Laurent Mekies to immediately lead one of the greatest teams in Formula 1, more so during their extremely unstable state. However, Racing Bulls’ current performance stands as nothing but a testament to Mekies’ capabilities. Now, with the team’s leadership potentially being distributed amongst multiple people, it could finally help the Austrian outfit resurrect its lost pace in the pinnacle of motorsport.
