Red Bull started the 2024 season off in a great fashion, as expected from their 2023 performance. The team had the pace to score a perfect season this time around. However, Red Bull started facing major issues with the balance and grip of the chassis. Regardless, Max Verstappen has maintained impressive results and now highlighted the importance of ‘proper battle’ during races.

Max Verstappen was extremely vocal regarding the issues in the RB20 challenger from the get-go. Verstappen reflected on the ‘great years’ that Red Bull scored before the 2024 struggles. Additionally, the Dutchman noted that the 2024 season had started competitively but the rivals continued to catch up at the forefront.

We had some great years. This year also started off really competitively, and now everyone’s catching up a bit.

The 2024 season has witnessed six different race winners out of 12 total races. Hence, the competition has never been closer since the beginning of the ground-effect era. Verstappen is facing tough competition for scoring the race win over the weekend. As a result, the 26-year-old claimed that such a ‘proper battle’ was great for the sport and the fans.

Every race is a proper battle as well, so it’s great.

Red Bull has still managed to manage the lead in the 2024 season despite the struggle in performance. Max Verstappen is still in the lead in the drivers’ championship but can come close to losing the position. Hence, the excitement and uncertainty for the championship leader towards the end of this season is at an all-time high.

Verstappen noted that this theme of competition will continue for the rest of the season and it was ‘unknown’ about what would happen towards the end.

I think that [theme] will continue also for the rest of the season, so it’s really unknown what is going to happen, and that’s great for the sport.

Red Bull has continued to bring in major upgrades to the chassis in hopes of improving in terms of performance. McLaren and Ferrari are currently the closest competitors of Milton Keynes with Mercedes looking hopeful of joining the competition. Hence, the 2024 season would be a spectacle for the fans to witness the competition.
