Max Verstappen had a heated back-and-forth with the FIA in 2024 after his swearing incident during the Singapore GP weekend. The governing body introduced a new rule banning the use of abusive language on track. Now, Verstappen shares his opinion on potentially swearing in Limburgish to avoid being penalized by the FIA.

The FIA recently introduced a new penalty system for the drivers, banning abusive language while racing on the track. The drivers now run a risk of being banned for up to a month if found repeatedly offensive. Max Verstappen, who suffered the worst out of all in the swearing saga, put forth a hilarious statement on the same.

Verstappen revealed that he contemplates swearing in his local language Limburgish after the newly introduced rule. The 27-year-old revealed that he did this during his days in junior karting. However, the Dutchman acknowledged that these situations were ‘silly’ and that he did not want to be involved in them anymore.

I used to do that often enough in karting, of course. In the end, these are all very silly things you don’t want to be involved in at all.

Max Verstappen urges the FIA to solve matters ‘behind the scenes’

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had called out both parties and asked them to solve the matters behind closed doors. Max Verstappen resonated with this thought and urged the FIA to solve things behind the scenes. The Dutchman believed that shouting the issues to the public wasn’t necessary as they could be resolved privately.

I always think it’s better to just not shout out so many things (to the public). It’s better to try to solve things behind the scenes. That’s better for everyone.

Verstappen will now shift his focus on performing in the 2025 season. The Dutchman has already faced struggles with the chassis during the pre-season testing. As a result, the 27-year-old might face difficulties in continuing his dominant championship-winning streak. Regardless, time will tell about how the reigning world champion copes with the incessant performance struggles.
