Max Verstappen remained in the headlines throughout the 2025 season because of his alleged move to Mercedes by the 2026 season. However, Verstappen ended the rumors and hinted that he was going to end his career with his current team. Now, ahead of the first race of the 2026 season, the 28-year-old has opened up on why he’s satisfied with his current status at Red Bull.
Max Verstappen started his career with Red Bull and has been racing for the parent team since the mid-2016 season. Moreover, the Dutchman is now participating in various motorsport categories apart from Formula 1. Notably, Verstappen recently founded his own sim-racing team, Verstappen.com Racing, which includes Chris Lulham, Thierry Vermeulen, and Jos Verstappen as members of the team.
With additional excursions apart from racing in F1, many teams might have denied Verstappen the opportunity to explore his options and race outside of the pinnacle of motorsport. However, Max Verstappen revealed that he talked to Red Bull about these things, and they always remained very open about it.
The Austrian constructor did not once try to disallow Verstappen from pursuing his ambitions outside of F1. Because of this, the Dutchman remained satisfied with his role and did not seek a seat in any other teams.
Max Verstappen revealed that the teams wanted a satisfied driver at the end of the day and to fulfill his demands in F1. Since Red Bull allowed him to do as he liked, he was ultimately satisfied with his position in Milton Keynes. Moreover, Verstappen explained that he did not have enough time to build a full-fledged GT3 team, as he ran for currently existing teams in the beginning.
Of course I talked to Red Bull about my ideas and they were very open about it, at the end of the day, as a team, you want to have a satisfied driver and not a frustrated driver. And this is what keeps me satisfied. At the moment, I don’t have the time to build the GT team all by myself, which is why we have chosen to have our formation run by existing teams, to Emil Frey Racing and 2 Seas Motorsport.
Max Verstappen told Viaplay.
Max Verstappen hints at having ‘achieved everything’ in Formula 1
Max Verstappen has achieved over four dominant championship title victories over his career in Formula 1. The Dutchman has already claimed that he has achieved everything he wanted from the sport, and hence would be satisfied anytime his career ended. Now, while exploring opportunities outside of F1, Verstappen once again hinted that he was satisfied with his achievements so far.

Verstappen asserted that he kept himself busy with other projects, as his racing career wasn’t going to last forever. The fans could witness a team leadership role from the 28-year-old in the near future following his exit from professional racing. The Dutchman believes that since he has achieved everything that he wanted from F1, he is now able to have more freedom to look at other motorsports and race in them.
I keep myself busy with other passion projects. Your own racing career is not forever, so a few years ago the idea of setting up your own team was born. When you have achieved all that you have wanted to achieve in F1, you also enjoy a bit more freedom to look at other things. I love racing and love driving different cars, something that of course was already taking shape in the virtual racing world.
Max Verstappen noted.
Certainly, these ventures from Max Verstappen prove that his dedication and passion for motorsports are unlike any other driver. This is what sets the Dutchman apart from the rivals. Despite his other ongoing projects, his full focus will have to be on the 2026 season and racing under the new regulations.
