Max Verstappen seems to be giving fans deja vu of 2023. The Dutch driver took yet another dominant win this weekend at the Azerbaijan GP. The reigning world champion started from pole position and simply didn’t look back. Now, Verstappen has admitted that he feels incredible following his surprise victory.

The Red Bull star had written off his title prospects earlier this year. However, the past two weekends might be enough to get Max Verstappen back in the title fight. The Dutch driver now trails behind championship leader Oscar Piastri by 69 points as the Australian driver retired from the race. Verstappen not only maintained his lead from the start, but led every lap to win the Baku street race.

Following the race, Max Verstappen asserted that the weekend was nothing short of incredible for Red Bull. The reigning world champion felt fantastic to become the only second driver to win twice in Azerbaijan. Sergio Perez was the only driver before Verstappen to win more than once in Baku. The 27-year-old insisted that the race was quite clear-cut as Red Bull enjoyed decent performance from both the medium and hard tires.

I think this weekend has been incredible for us. For us to win here again is fantastic. In the race the car was working well on both compounds. It was pretty straight forward.

Max Verstappen jokes over lack of Safety Cars at Azerbaijan GP

The Azerbaijan GP is infamous for chaos. Qualifying this weekend was no different with numerous red flags and crashes hampering the session. Many predicted that the race would be no different. However, there was only one incident when Oscar Piastri binned it into the wall for a second time this weekend.

Max Verstappen joked that he was surprised that there was only one Safety Car in the race. The reigning world champion had a smile on his face as he took two wins in a row. After a record-breaking performance at Monza, the Baku win will further boost Verstappen’s prospects.

I was happy that there were not too many Safety Cars! For sure the last two race weekends have ben amazing for us.

There are still eight races to go this season. Max Verstappen does not have a direct shot at the title considering McLaren’s longstanding pace advantage this year. However, the past two weekends hint that Verstappen might indeed be coming back in this battle. Thus, fans should not be surprised if the Red Bull star manages to continue this momentum and cause more trouble in the coming weeks.
