Max Verstappen and the FIA have been at odds since last year. The Dutchman has lashed out at the sports governing body over its crackdown on swearing. Now, the Red Bull driver has doubled down with a latest jibe over the new rules for the 2025 season.
The FIA has implemented stricter norms to curb dissent this year. Drivers can face up to a race ban and a hefty fine for criticizing decisions made by race control. The F1 drivers’ association has hit out at the crackdown. While Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has sided with the sports governing body.
Max Verstappen pointed out that drivers might need to shell out a lot of money if they violate the new rules. The four-time world champion highlighted that such strict rules might not be necessary. Rather, the 27-year-old urged the FIA to use some common sense. Previously, he had joked that he’ll simply talk less to avoid trouble.
Yes, it’s a lot of money. Honestly, from my side, I think it’s not necessary to be like that with the rules. I think you need to use a bit of common sense.

Max Verstappen yet to discuss crackdown with Mohammed Ben Sulayem
Verstappen and Mohammed Ben Sulayem have not met eye-to-eye in the past year. The two share conflicting viewpoints over the use of swear words. The Dutch driver admitted that he has not had a discussion with the FIA President yet. The reigning world champion considered the new rules as excessive, something which he feels was not needed this way.

No. It’s a complicated matter. Like I say now, I think it’s just a bit much. It’s not necessary to put it like that, fully written down.
Max Verstappen added
It is likely that the Red Bull driver will continue to voice his dissatisfaction over the FIA’s recent change. Max Verstappen has never backed away from publicly criticizing Ben Sulayem or the sports governing body. As such, fans can expect another potential standoff in the coming season.
