Max Verstappen has emerged as one of the better drivers on the grid in the 2025 season. The Dutchman has kept up with his winning pace despite racing in a highly inferior chassis compared to the rivals. Midway through the year, Verstappen faced massive struggles, which caused Helmut Marko to doubt the former’s love for the game.

However, the 27-year-old has finally responded to these claims from Marko and revealed his mind on the matter. After suffering from a woeful performance slump mid-way through the 2025 season, Max Verstappen claimed that his results did not matter anymore.

The team had even given up on the Dutchman’s title hopes after the point difference between him and the championship leader grew to over 100 points. However, Verstappen made a shocking comeback in results and joined the mix for the title within five races.

Back when Max Verstappen was facing struggles, Helmut Marko had made claims that the former was likely not as excited to race on the grid with Red Bull. However, Verstappen’s sudden resurgence in results has quickly shut down the possibility of such claims. The Dutchman even responded to Marko’s comments directly and negated any such possibilities.

Max Verstappen declared that it wasn’t true that he did not enjoy racing in Formula 1 as much after facing struggles. He accepted that racing was more enjoyable when race weekends were simpler in performance, and it was an easy outing.

Regardless of the struggles, Verstappen insisted that he always sat in the car trying to maximize results and achieve the best possible. He reassured that even if he was fighting for P4 or even P9, he gave it his all and wouldn’t back down from a challenge.

No, I don’t, Of course it’s more enjoyable coming to the race weekends like this than knowing that you don’t have a chance to win, but I know for myself that when I sit in the car I will always try to maximise everything that I have and I give it everything. So even if I’m fighting for P4 or even a P9, I will always try to get the best out of it.

Max Verstappen reveals 2025 title charge ‘very different’ from his previous wins

At its peak, Max Verstappen was trailing the championship leader Oscar Piastri by over 100 points. He even accepted the possibility of never winning a title in F1 again. However, Red Bull’s sudden resurgence meant that Verstappen was able to cut the point deficit down to just 40 points in a matter of five races. As such, the reigning world champion revealed that his title charge this year was very different.

Max Verstappen revealed that he wanted to win the driver’s title as he had achieved title wins very late in the season and even early on in the season. However, the 2025 title charge was very different as most of the year, it was difficult for him to perform well.

Verstappen reckoned that being in the title fight even now was very surprising to him. Regardless, the Dutchman insisted that he needed to be perfect up until the very end of the season and keep up with pressure, as he believed it to be positive.

Of course naturally you want to win, you want to win the championship, of course I’ve won championships very late, very early. Now this one is very different because I think for most of the season it was a lot harder for us, and to be honest with you, to still be in this fight is very surprising. But I take it and now like I said before we need to be perfect, but for me it’s just positive pressure.

Max Verstappen noted.

The 2025 season has turned out to be extremely interesting and exciting. Certainly, if Max Verstappen manages to win the title this year, it would be his greatest title wins and help strengthen his position in the debate of being among the sport’s GOATs. For now, Verstappen will take the season race by race and give it his all in the final five races.
