Max Verstappen is now suddenly back in the mix for winning the driver’s title after seemingly losing all chances of it mid-way through the 2025 season. At its peak, Verstappen was adrift of the championship lead by over 100 points and was sure that he couldn’t win the title anymore.
However, a surprising turnaround in pace has helped him achieve a streak of dominant results, increasing his title-winning chances. As such, the reigning world champion revealed his own shock at the matter at hand. Following a difficult outing mid-way through the season, Max Verstappen had claimed that his results did not matter anymore, and that he wasn’t in the mix for the driver’s title.
However, three race wins and a P2 finish in Singapore, coupled with woeful results from McLaren, have set Verstappen up nicely to fight for the title win. Hence, he revealed his true reaction and how his old self at the beginning of the 2025 season would react to his current situation.
Max Verstappen revealed that if anyone had predicted his current championship condition a few months back, he would consider them to be an idiot. The Dutchman insisted that Red Bull found a great turnaround in the car, and it was as simple as that.
Verstappen noted that while Red Bull made some upgrades in the car, the team also understood the challenger better and the areas where it was previously underperforming. The 27-year-old reckoned that the chassis performed better on some weekends, and poorly on others, but in general it was much dominant as compared to before. The four-time champion declared that the car was more straightforward to drive, something which he did not think would happen this year.
No. I would have told him he was an idiot! We found a good way with the car. It’s simple as that. Of course, we put some upgrades on the car, but we just understood our car a bit better as well – where we wanted it to perform better. Every weekend we try to achieve it. Some weekends it’s better than others, but in general it’s been way more straightforward the last few weekends compared to those races before.

Max Verstappen aims to be ‘perfect’ until the very end of the 2025 season
Max Verstappen’s performance at the US GP was extremely sublime and flawless. But he still reckoned that there were points of improvement in the car, as he could have been better in some areas. After the dominance in Austin, the 27-year-old highlighted his and Red Bull’s ambitions for the remainder of the 2025 season and revealed the conditions under which he could actually win the title.

Max Verstappen insisted that Red Bull had to be perfect until the very end of the 2025 season in order to have a chance at the driver’s title. Verstappen accepted that the team caught up a lot in a short amount of time, but the gap to the rivals was also very close. As such, the Dutchman laid out his ambitions to be perfect in terms of performance for the rest of the weekend and finally seal his fifth consecutive championship win.
It was a bit better today, even though it’s still not where I wanted it to be. We need to be perfect until the end to have a chance, We caught up a lot, but at the same time, the gaps are very small. Every weekend you need to try and be perfect, and that’s what we’ll try to do until the end.

Certainly, it will be one of the greatest stories in Formula 1 if Max Verstappen actually manages to win the title this year. Verstappen is already regarded as one of the best drivers in the sport, and his 2025 title win will only strengthen his case. Hence, it will be interesting to witness if the 27-year-old manages to pull off a stellar comeback in results.
