- Max Verstappen will not participate in Rally Racing due to concerns over safety and risk.
- He admires his father's skills in rallying but prefers to race on proper tracks.
- Verstappen emphasizes that Formula 1 has higher safety standards compared to rallying.
Max Verstappen is a well-rounded person, especially when it comes to racing. The Dutchman possesses a great interest in participating in various motorsport categories. Verstappen even debuted in GT3 racing and achieved victory on his first entry. Now, the four-time F1 champion opens up on why he will never try his hand at Rallying, like his father Jos Verstappen.
Jos Verstappen is currently racing in the European Rally Championship despite being over 53 years old. Verstappen Sr. has achieved some notable results in the dirt, as his son was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps. However, the Red Bull ace has shockingly revealed that, amid many other motorsports he wishes to race in, Rally Racing does not exist on the list.
Though Max Verstappen deeply admires his father’s racing skills, he has reassured that he isn’t planning to participate in the Rally Championship. Verstappen admitted that, despite Rally racing being cool, he worried about the risk-to-reward ratio of the sport. The Dutchman was afraid of going off course and hitting a tree, which could end in a disaster. He accepted that this was too high a risk for him, and he simply didn’t want to do it.
I think it’s really cool, but I just think about if I make a mistake and I hit that tree, I mean the tree is not moving. That, for me, is my limit. That, for me, is something that I don’t want to do. It’s just too high of a risk.
Max Verstappen said on the Up To Speed podcast.
Max Verstappen accepted that it sounded silly coming from a Formula 1 driver, but the pinnacle of motorsport had much higher safety standards. The four-time champion highlighted that F1 atleast had proper barriers and special gravel pits to prevent extremely dangerous accidents, and maintain the safety of the drivers. Verstappen reiterated that the risk of Rally Racing was something he was unwilling to take for the foreseeable future.
And I know that sounds maybe a bit silly, but in Formula 1 at least or most of the time, when you crash, there is a barrier, like a properly designed barrier that should absorb the impact a bit more. It’s a bit different in my head at least. It’s just a risk that I’m not willing to take, but it is really cool to see.

Max Verstappen reveals how he barely manages to win against his father Jos Verstappen
Certainly, Jos Verstappen is a highly athletic person, especially for his age. The 53-year-old continues to make his name in Dirt Racing despite being significantly older than his rivals in the sport. Now, Max Verstappen shares his thoughts on how he races against his father at times and finds it difficult to beat him, despite being an extremely dominant driver himself.

Max Verstappen accepted that his father was very good at motorsports and was very hard to beat. The Dutchman continued that while racing him, he had to go flat out to beat him on a lap. Though he liked racing against his father and racing in general, he only did it on proper tracks and not dirt tracks. Ultimately, Verstappen finds the sport very interesting but is unwilling to give it a shot anytime soon.
He’s very good at it, to be honest. He loves it. He’s very hard to beat. When we go on to – like – let’s say you rent a little space on an airport and they set out a track and then you drive together, like honestly, I have to go flat out to beat him on a lap. And that I like doing. But on a proper stage, and he shows me all the videos that he’s doing in whatever kind of rally car that he’s driving, and I mean I find it really impressive.
Max Verstappen noted.
Given the fact that Max Verstappen recently fathered his first daughter with his long-time girlfriend Kelly Piquet, it is understandable that he does not want to take unwarranted risks. Jos Verstappen is certainly a beast of a driver and does not like losing. Ultimately, the father-son duo is great where they are currently and achieving success despite the category.
