Red Bull driver Max Verstappen made up 17 places on the grid to win the Brazilian Grand Prix in a dominant fashion last weekend. Verstappen originally qualified for P12 but was demoted due to a five-place grid penalty.
Max Verstappen is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 393 points to his name. He started the 2024 season in impressive form, securing seven wins out of the first 10 races. However, a winless drought followed the Dutchman, who failed to make the top spot since the Spanish GP.
Hopes ran low for the Red Bull as well as Verstappen himself on a rainy afternoon at Interlagos. But the three-time world champion delivered the best individual performance of his career to win the race. Everyone on the grid, including his rivals, couldn’t help but applaud the 27-year-old’s heroics.
Verstappen can now seal his fourth consecutive world championship if he manages to win the upcoming race in Las Vegas. Nonetheless, it will not be easy for the Dutchman to come up trumps once again against Ferrari and McLaren.
Jos Verstappen shares his take on FIA in light of Max Verstappen’s recent fiasco
Former Dutch racer Jos Verstappen has criticized the FIA’s current practices at the pinnacle of motorsport. Verstappen Sr.’s son Max Verstappen was a burning topic for the governing body in light of some recent incidents on track. He has been at fault in the past few races, receiving a 20-second time penalty at the Mexican GP.
Jos Verstappen has urged the FIA to appoint stewards who are truly skilled and do not possess a personal agenda. He has said that people who truly understand the terms and functionalities of racing should be the stewards.
Verstappen was knocked out of Q2 at the Brazilian GP qualifying after the officials delayed the deployment of a red flag. Many such issues have been occurring against the Dutchman, which leads his father to wonder about the intentions of the FIA.
