“Too involved in himself” – Max Verstappen not wearing Ayrton Senna’s t-shirt for F1 tribute at Emilia Romagna GP doesn’t sit well with fans on social media

The Late Ayrton Senna was a Formula 1 legend. The Brazilian driver is still regarded as one of the best drivers in racing history. Unfortunately, Senna passed away after a tragic crash in Imola thirty years ago. Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel organized a tribute for the Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, who died a day before the Brazilian. However, it seems that Max Verstappen missed a memo regarding the event.
The tribute was held on Thursday at the Emilia Romagna GP. All drivers and personnel from the paddock got together in special Ayrton Senna t-shirts behind the helmets of Senna and Ratzenberger. However, Max Verstappen was spotted wearing his regular Red Bull kit. The three-time world champion seemed to be the only one at the center of the tribute to not wear the special tee.
Verstappen proudly held the Brazilian flag alongside the likes of George Russell and Charles Leclerc. It must be noted that the Dutch driver was wearing a pin in honor of Roland Ratzenberger. Max Verstappen has not made any comment on this incident. Although, some believe that the Red Bull driver was running late and did not get his t-shirt from Sebastian Vettel.
Fans call out Max Verstappen for allegedly disrespecting Ayrton Senna
Fans on X were furious to see Verstappen not wear the Senna t-shirt. One user claimed that they were not surprised but simply disappointed to see the Dutch driver disrespect the F1 legend. The user wrote, “Formula 1 honoring Ayrton Senna but one person decided to be disrespectful. Not surprising but disappointing.” Moreover, one fan reckoned that Max Verstappen was “too involved in himself.”
Another user joked that perhaps no one had taught Verstappen about respect. The user commented, “Nobody has explained what respect is to Max yet.” While one fan stated that the Dutch driver only cared about himself. The fan said, “The guy can’t be bothered to care for anyone else but himself.”
On the other hand, some came to Max Verstappen’s defense. One user highlighted that Verstappen is said to have been late to the tribute and as such couldn’t receive the t-shirt from Sebastian Vettel. The user stated, “He was late so Seb didn’t have time to give max the shirt.” While another fan pointed out that the Dutchman was paying homage with the pin and the flag.

Certainly, this incident will remain a talking point for a couple of days. It remains to be seen if Max Verstappen or Red Bull reveal the real reason for the Dutchman wearing the team kit. However, it might be better for fans to not draw conclusions without getting complete information. Nevertheless, F1 paid a beautiful tribute to Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger which shouldn’t be overshadowed by this incident.
