Max Verstappen and Red Bull made a great comeback at the Emilia Romagna GP after a woeful performance during the practice sessions. The Dutchman scored the pole position and matched Ayrton Senna‘s world record for most consecutive poles in F1. Hence, the 26-year-old was expected to have a smooth sailing race around the Italian circuit. However, the Dutchman was spotted ranting on team radio regarding the problems he was facing.
Max Verstappen was initially vocal regarding the balance and grip issues during the Friday sessions of the Emilia Romagna GP. The RB20 was updated before the qualifying which helped the Dutchman bring home a pole position. However, during the race, Verstappen received a black and white flag for repeated infringements. The 26-year-old is suffering from understeering and grip issues around the circuit as well.
Hence, when Verstappen was informed about the black-and-white flag, the Dutchman didn’t hold back from showcasing his resentment. The reigning world champion added that the car and tire conditions were ‘f**ked’. The medium compounds were extremely difficult to drive around after so many circuits. Hence, the 26-year-old questioned Gianpiero Lambiase about the reasons for staying out despite facing so many issues.
The car is f**ked. The tire is f**ked. Why are you staying out?Max Verstappen told his radio engineer GP.
? GP: "OK, Max, that was a third track limit warning. Turn 17. That's now a black and white flag. No more."

Max Verstappen claimed he would’ve been satisfied after a ‘top five’ qualifying
Fans at the Imola circuit weren’t expecting Max Verstappen and Red Bull to showcase such a dominant performance after the struggles on Friday. Verstappen revealed that he went into the qualifying thinking that even a top-five qualifying position would suffice. This was because of the difficult weekend that the Austrian constructor faced over the weekend.
I honestly went into qualifying thinking, 'If I can get a top five I'll be happy', because this weekend has been really difficult.Max Verstappen said, as reported by mirror.co.uk.
However, during the session, the 26-year-old felt great and more comfortable during the qualifying session. Verstappen highlighted that he could successfully attack the corners and the laps ‘came together’. The Dutchman added that during the final corner, he was trying to get everything out of the RB20 challenger around the circuit.
Straight away [in qualifying] it felt a little better and I felt a lot more comfortable. I could finally attack corners a bit more. It all came together. The final lap was all-out, trying to risk it all. I think you could see in the final corner, I had a little moment there. I was just really trying to get everything out.Max Verstappen added.
Hence, Max Verstappen has currently been leading the Emilia Romagna GP with ease and no competition yet. The 26-year-old will likely showcase yet another dominant performance and victory over the weekend. McLaren is still closely following the Austrian constructor’s performance and could provide a tough battle to the team down the race.
