Three-time reigning world champion, Max Verstappen finished P6 at the Monaco Grand Prix, which is his lowest finish since the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix. The Red Bulls struggled through the weekend in Monaco and could not perform to the best of their abilities.
Max Verstappen has won five races out of a possible eight in 2024 and currently stands at the top of the driver’s championship. But, for the last three races, Red Bull has been greatly challenged by the likes of Ferrari and McLaren, who are closing in on the Austrian team.
During the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull racing driver, Sergio Perez crashed after a collision with Kevin Magnussen of Haas, which led the Mexican driver to end his stint early. Max Verstappen was unable to make up any places after the restart of the race, as the red flag meant that every driver underwent the mandatory pit stop and looked to continue on a single set of tires.
I guess the only positive out of it is that we really know what our weakness is. If we can improve that only by a little bit, we will gain a lot of lap time. There's a lot of room for improvement. If we can sort that out, then our car really comes alive again.Max Verstappen told the media including RacingNews365.
Verstappen pointed out after the race that Red Bull is now aware of the problems and can greatly improve its performance in the coming races. The Milton-Keynes-based team will now look to work on their hindrances as they seek to make a return to their glorious standards in time for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Sergio Perez closing in on a new Red Bull contract
Sergio Perez is reportedly closing on a new Red Bull contract amidst poor performances in the last few races of the ongoing season. The Mexican driver’s contract expires at the end of the season, with rumors of several replacements being looked upon for next season.
I think by Barcelona we should have a clear picture. I would say we should have a clear idea ourselves by then. He is in a good position. I wouldn’t say pole-position, but he is in a good position.Helmut Marko said post Monaco GP.
Perez appeared to be struggling last season, with the driver managing to score 285 points while being 29 points adrift of Max Verstappen. This season, however, the Mexican has rejuvenated his form and has been performing well for the team, amassing four podiums in eight races.
However, in Imola and Monaco, the 34-year-old driver could not perform well, scoring only four points at Imola while having a DNF in Monaco. The future of the experienced driver now hangs in the balance, as Red Bull Technical Advisor, Helmut Marko says a decision will take shape after the Spanish Grand Prix.
