Max Verstappen overturned his fortunes after a dismal P8 finish at the Qatar GP sprint race hours before the main race qualifying.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen made a statement by clinching pole position in spectacular fashion at the Qatar GP qualifying on Saturday. The 27-year-old will now start on pole for the first time since the Austrian GP this year.
Max Verstappen, who was crowned the 2024 world champion last weekend, arrived in Lusail with an objective to win. However, a poor sprint-qualifying run compelled the Dutchman to start P6 on the grid. He finished P8 at the Qatar GP sprint race on a greater decrement for the Milton Keynes-based team.
But to everyone’s amusement, Verstappen performed in an incredible manner during the main race qualifying just a few hours after the sprint. He clocked a time of 1:20.520 to top the leaderboard by 0.055s in Q3.

Verstappen’s expectations will now run high as he seeks to convert his pole start to a win on Sunday. He will nevertheless be challenged by the likes of Mercedes and McLaren, who have been very competitive as well.
Christian Horner’ take on Red Bull’ changes post Max Verstappen pole
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was in praise of his team after Max Verstappen secured his ninth pole of 2024. The Milton-Keynes-based team needed some radical changes to cope with the likes of their competitors in Qatar.
Christian Horner: We threw the kitchen sink at it, and changed everything you can, and it's difficult to know if it would work. Yesterday, we were lacking in turn 1, 2 and the last corner, and he was pretty much setting purple sectors.

Chrisitan Horner reveals that his team changed every possible lacking part within the RB20 ahead of qualifying. The 50-year-old thereafter gleamed in delight seeing Verstappen notch purple sectors during Saturday’s session.
The Milton-Keynes-based team stands third in the constructors’ championship with only two races to go. With seemingly fewer chances in their favor, all they can hope for is to win in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
