Max Verstappen believes Red Bull’s advantage over other teams has gotten smaller. At the beginning of the season, Milton Keynes had the chance of winning even while making a few mistakes. The situation was different now and the team can’t afford tiny mistakes says the Dutchman.
Max Verstappen while talking to media was asked if the tough situations this season has made the competition exciting for him. The Dutchman said that it’s more challenging compared to the start of the season. Other teams have improved and caught up to Red Bull, making tiny mistakes at this stage is not affordable.
It's definitely more challenging.Max Verstappen said, as reported by RacingNews365
The 26-year-old said the Canadian GP was exciting and noted that despite making small mistakes, he still won the race. This kind of race keeps the team alert, because they can’t afford making any mistakes further, not even small ones. The Dutchman stated, every little detail is crucial as the competition is so close.
And I think also with, of course, how the race [the Canadian Grand Prix] was, it was very exciting in general. And it definitely keeps us on our toes. We cannot afford to make mistakes or tiny mistakes anymore. So, yeah, every little detail matters now.Max Verstappen explained
Max Verstappen explains how ‘competitive’ constructors championship will be in further races
Max Verstappen explains how important it was for him to score a lot of points to prevent other teams from catching up. The Dutchman acknowledged the competition will get much tougher as moving forward. Verstappen also took Sergio Perez‘s performance under consideration in regard to the title fight.
I knew that I had to score big, of course, to not let the other teams catch up a lot.Max Verstappen explained
The 26-year-old further said, as long as Red Bull keeps winning and earning 25 points for each win they won’t loose much ground, even if other teams finishes second or third. This means affording ‘one-off’ sometimes as Checo’s DNF in Canada will not affect their overall standings. The main thing for Red Bull is to keep winning.
But I do think at the end of the day, as long as you keep winning, so you score 25 points, even if the others finish P2, P3, you don't really lose out too much. And then you can afford sometimes these one-offs.Max Verstappen added
Overall, Max Verstappen reckoned Red Bull is at a crucial stage where they cannot afford to make even small mistakes unless one of the driver wins. Red Bull fans would love to see both the drivers securing first and second place in races as they did in the beginning. Securing some points for the team and making sure the gap between second place keeps on increasing.
