Red Bull once again put forth a disappointing performance during the Chinese GP Sprint Qualifying. Max Verstappen was unable to fight for the pole position for the Sprint race and is set to start the race from P8. Now, Verstappen has labeled the team’s outing in China as nothing short of a disaster, as he does not expect a picture-perfect finish to the Chinese weekend.
Max Verstappen did not suppress his true feelings while speaking about Red Bull’s outing on Friday. The Dutchman ran wide during the SQ2 session before being impeded by Pierre Gasly. After crawling his car to make it into the SQ3 session, Verstappen ultimately qualified to start the race in P8. Moreover, he isn’t expecting to fight for the victory over the race either.
Speaking bluntly on the Sprint Quali pace, Max Verstappen made a shocking acceptance that the whole day had been a disaster, pace-wise. The 28-year-old continued that he suffered from a lack of grip, which was definitely the biggest problem. Verstappen added that he lost a lot of crucial time, especially on the corners, which further caused him problems.
The whole day has been a disaster, pace-wise, No grip. Honestly, I think that’s the biggest problem. No grip, no balance, just losing massive amounts of time in the corners, to be honest.
Max Verstappen said, as reported by RacingNews365.
Further, Max Verstappen highlighted that because of these grip issues, it started to trigger multiple other little problems in the car. However, the Dutchman singled out the big problem for the team, which was that the cornering of the challenger was completely out. As such, Milton Keynes must work on these issues and ensure that Verstappen receives a great shot at contending for the race win.
Because of that, you start triggering other little problems. But the big problem for us is that the cornering is completely out.
Max Verstappen added.
Max Verstappen opens up on his F1 future amid 2026 F1 regulations fiasco
Max Verstappen hasn’t backed down from talking about his retirement plans from Formula 1. Because of the complex and uncertain 2026 regulations, Verstappen noted that he might exit the sport earlier than expected. Now, following the problematic start to the year, the Dutchman has opened up on his future in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Speaking about his F1 future, Max Verstappen accepted that he did not want to leave. He reckoned that he wanted to have a bit more fun and spend some time on track. However, he highlighted that he was also doing a lot of things on the side, which made the whole process fun. Still, Verstappen reflected that it was conflicting because he did not enjoy driving the cars under the new regulations.
I don’t want to leave. I wish I had a bit more time and a bit more fun, for sure, but I’m also doing other stuff that is a lot of fun. At the same time, it’s a bit conflicting because I don’t really enjoy the car, but I do enjoy working with all the people in the team and from the engine department as well.
Max Verstappen noted.
