Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was unsatisfied with the pace of the RB20 during the practice runs on Friday in Las Vegas. The team came into the event hoping to capitalize further after a stellar win at Interlagos a few weeks back.
Max Verstappen was complaining about the grip of the RB20 during the FP2 session in Vegas. He anticipated that tire temperatures would be an issue this weekend. The team was reportedly unsatisfied with the speed of the car as compared to McLaren and Mercedes, who topped practice on Friday.
The Milton-Keynes-based team’s GPS apparently calculated a 7 km/hr deficit on the straights as compared to the other teams, as per reports. Their shortfalls have been caused due to a draggy rear wing spec on the RB20. Christian Horner‘s outfit by mistake brought the wrong rear wing spec to Las Vegas.
Verstappen has a chance to secure the drivers’ championship if he wins by a specific margin in the coming weekend. But with the current trend of the team’s pace, his aspirations might just not come to fruition at the street circuit.
F1 pundit deems Max Verstappen as a perfectionist amidst recent performance slump
Max Verstappen had failed to win in the past 10 races up until the Sao Paolo GP. He was powerless against the solid pace of Ferrari and McLaren. Former racer Karun Chandhok has hence highlighted the reasons for the 27-year-old’s slump in performance.
Karun Chandhok believes that Verstappen’s downfall in pace was a prime byproduct of his frustration. He believes that the Dutchman was not able to notch results in a car that was not as dominant as his previous years.
Chandhok therefore concluded that the lack of pace and victories irritated Verstappen, as the latter is a perfectionist. Nevertheless, the three-time world champion has rightly found his form and is extremely focused on securing a fourth title this season.
