Verstappen had backed Perez on multiple occasions in the past for continuing with Red Bull. The Dutchman claimed that his final goal was to simply beat his teammate. Regardless, the 27-year-old was on good terms with the Mexican driver and didn’t wish any ill-intents. However, the reigning world champion did suggest that a team having two fast drivers who got along well was important.

I cannot say now….In the end, you have to beat him. I have always had good relations with my teammates. I already have a lot of experience. It is good for the team to have two fast drivers and that they get along well.

Max Verstappen told Sky Sports Germany.

Max Verstappen blames ‘very difficult car’ on Sergio Perez’s woeful 2024 season

Red Bull’s RB20 chassis was mediocre at best in terms of performance and provided a lot of problems to the driver. Speaking about where Sergio Perez went wrong, Max Verstappen suggested that it hadn’t always been the former’s fault.

The team’s ‘very difficult car’ was partly to blame for Perez’s downfall in performance. Moreover, the 27-year-old believed that everything wasn’t the fault of the Mexican driver in terms of how things went wrong this season.

On one hand, it’s been tough for Checo. It hasn’t always been his fault. But at that moment, we had a very difficult car. You can blame it on that. Of course, I don’t want to bash him as he’s my teammate. I get along with him well, but I can clearly say not everything has been his fault regarding how things went wrong.

Max Verstappen told Viaplay.

The team will undergo massive personnel change among the engineers in the 2025 season. As a result, Red Bull will face a dire situation of scoring an upturn in performance with limited hands on deck. Hence, Milton Keynes will have to work extremely hard on their form in the coming season to ensure a better finish in the pecking order.
