Max Verstappen and Red Bull had a difficult outing in Hungary. The Dutch driver could not extract the most out of the car to secure pole on Saturday, with a tough strategy forcing Verstappen to push to the limit to salvage a decent result. The reigning world champion did not hold back his feelings after the Grand Prix.
Verstappen admitted that he simply had a really bad race this weekend. The 26-year-old claimed that everything went wrong for him and Red Bull. The Dutch driver highlighted that he had a bad strategy at a track where it is rather difficult to overtake. Max Verstappen had lashed out on the team radio regarding the same during the race.
This was just a really bad race. Everything went wrong, the strategy went bad. We know it's very difficult to overtake here, that's all I was doing.Max Verstappen told Telegraaf.nl
The reigning world champion recalled his conversations with the pitwall. Max Verstappen claimed that the team made ‘stupid comments’ instead of accepting its mistake in this regard. Subsequently, this did not help calm the Dutchman. As Verstappen reckoned that the team kept arguing over the strategy call.
I got stupid comments back on the radio. Instead of talking to me, just maybe admitting [the strategy] wasn't ideal, which can calm me down, but they are still arguing against me.Max Verstappen stated
Max Verstappen admits Red Bull ‘too slow’ after P5 in Hungary
Verstappen seemed to be nowhere near contention for victory at Hungary. However, the Dutch driver was looking to potentially grab a podium and get some decent points for the championship. Unfortunately, Max Verstappen collided with Lewis Hamilton, which further forced him down the order, ultimately finishing in fifth place.
Understandably, the Dutch driver was not pleased by Red Bull’s performance this weekend. The reigning world champion highlighted that the Austrian team seemed to have no match to the McLarens as the Woking-based team secured a 1-2 in Qualifying and the race. Verstappen admitted that the team was simply too slow compared to its main rivals.
We couldn't keep up with McLaren at all. It wasn't good. It's difficult to predict what's to come, but at the moment we are too slow.Max Verstappen stated
Certainly, Max Verstappen is far from happy after the Hungarian GP. The Dutch driver will perhaps have discussions with his team to understand the mistakes made this weekend and hopefully ease the tension caused by the strategy issues. Fans would be hoping to see Verstappen bounce back in the next round of the season.
