Max Verstappen‘s future at Red Bull has been under intense scrutiny ever since the team’s performance struggles began. The Dutchman has been giving it his all to get out of the performance slump and start scoring better results. However, Verstappen’s failed chances of fighting for the race wins caused rumors to open up about his exit from the team as early as the 2026 season. Amid the speculations growing in number, the reigning world champion has finally revealed his selection of teams for the coming year.
Red Bull’s problematic leadership situation, involving Christian Horner hogging all the positions, meant that Max Verstappen allegedly wanted the former snubbed from the team. Now that Milton Keynes has fired the 51-year-old, he has likely tipped his decision in their favor. Verstappen already has a contract with the Austrian outfit atleast until the 2028 season, which he is going to stay true to now.
Max Verstappen had previously remained silent despite multiple rumors, only growing in numbers. Now, the 27-year-old is done with the guessing game and has revealed the true reason behind his silence. Verstappen pointed out that he never spoke on the matter as his focus was just on talking with Red Bull and fixing the performance issues. The four-time champion is focused on the future of Milton Keynes, as this was the reason why he had nothing to add on the matter.
I’ve never really said anything about it because I was just focused on talking to the team about how we can improve our performance, future ideas for next year as well, and that’s why I had nothing really to add.
Max Verstappen said, as reported by Autosport
Max Verstappen firmly stated that it was now time to stop all the rumors about his exit from Red Bull in the coming season. The Dutchman insisted that he was always clear in his decision to stay with the same team that helped him win four world championships and potentially even more. Verstappen reckoned that the team had the same feeling regarding the matter, as they never wanted to see him leave the team.
But I think it’s time to basically stop all the rumours, and for me it’s always been quite clear that I was staying anyway. I think that was also the general feeling in the team anyway, because we were always in discussions about what we could do with the car.

Max Verstappen refuses to ‘write off’ 2025 title chances
Out of the 13 races so far, Max Verstappen has won only two as he sits 69 points adrift of the championship lead to Oscar Piastri. The reigning world champion had previously claimed that his results didn’t matter anymore, as fighting for the title was seemingly impossible now. However, Verstappen has now backed down on his previous claims and raised confidence for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Max Verstappen pointed out that there was still a lot to learn about the strengths and quirks of the RB21 challenger. The Dutchman asserted that the cars would be different under the new regulations of the 2026 season. Because of this, Verstappen refused to give up on the 2025 season yet, as the teams could gain more information about the coming season, at the very least.
I think there’s still a lot of opportunity to learn more about the car and the behaviour of the car. Of course, I know that the cars will be different next year, but there are still things that you can take out of this year on the engineering side of things and also implement for next year. So, you cannot just say: ‘Okay, we’re not winning the championship this year, so we just write it off completely.’
Max Verstappen noted
The 2025 season has been nothing short of a massive challenge for Red Bull as they will have to showcase great resilience in the remaining races. Max Verstappen will continue to give it his all despite the rumors brewing in the background. For now, the Dutchman will shift his focus to the Hungarian GP ahead of the summer break.
