Red Bull’s performance in the 2024 season has been extremely disappointing following the massive performance struggles. Max Verstappen has been unable to fight for victories and might face serious challenges in his championship ambitions. Hence, amidst the incessant struggles, the Dutchman noted that the rival teams didn’t face similar issues to Milton Keynes.

Max Verstappen hasn’t tasted victory since his last win at the 2024 Spanish GP. He has continued to score points over the race weekends despite facing struggles. Speaking regarding the recent issues, Verstappen noted that the team went the wrong way in development at some point. Additionally, the 27-year-old claimed that the rival teams did not encounter a similar problem during development.

At some point, we didn’t go the right way [in development]. The other teams have either not encountered that particular problem yet or they have developed in a different direction from us. That is always difficult to assess.

Verstappen had already detected the balance problem on the chassis from the highly dominant RB19 in the 2023 season. However, the rocketship RB19 was still much faster than the competitors on the grid and didn’t put forth such major issues in performance. The remainder of the grid was relatively slower which helped Milton Keynes compensate for the balance issues.

I sensed earlier that the car balance felt very different from last year’s car. At that time, our car was still a lot stronger than the rest, or maybe I should say the rest was a lot slower back then, so you could still compensate.

Max Verstappen revealed the races after which Red Bull’s performance ‘got much worse’

Red Bull and Max Verstappen still managed to score seven victories in the 2024 season amidst a dwindling pace. However, Verstappen recalled that the chassis’ performance started to worsen after the Japanese and Chinese GP. He claimed that it was difficult to keep up with performances while the rest of the grid continued to make progress.

After races [in Japan and China], it got much worse. At one point it was just very difficult to keep up and the rest [of the grid] made progress.

Despite the fall in performance, Verstappen has a decent lead in the drivers’ standings. The 27-year-old will attempt his best to defend his lead and fend off against the in-form Lando Norris. Regardless, the 2024 season is looking promising for an enticing end-of-the-season battle between the top drivers.
