Red Bull has great hopes of showcasing an impressive performance at their home race in Austria. The team’s struggling pace has seen a positive outcome after Max Verstappen‘s consistent efforts. However, the weekend was nothing short of a surprise for the Austrian constructor. Max Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen had a verbal bout with Christian Horner at the Austrian GP.
Jos Verstappen has raced in F1 for a total of 106 grand prix. However, Verstappen Sr. wasn’t done with racing in F1 as he tried to partake in the parade of historic cars at the Red Bull Ring. However, Christian Horner intervened and caused the 52-year-old to not participate in the event. This led to a war of words between the two in which Max Verstappen was also dragged in.
Max Verstappen broke his silence over the matter and claimed that these situations were not nice for any parties involved. Additionally, the Dutchman noted that Verstappen Sr. didn’t care about driving the car, but did it for the fans. Subsequently, the 26-year-old pointed out that Red Bull’s great welcome at the circuit further caused his father to be involved in the parade of legends.
My dad actually doesn't care about driving the car, but he got asked and [Red Bull Austria] said: 'Please do it for the fans - Dutch fans, blah, blah, blah'. Red Bull have a great relationship with [the] home track. So I understand.Max Verstappen said, as reported by bbc.com.
Max Verstappen claims such a scenario could’ve been ‘avoided’
Jos Verstappen quickly withdrew his name from the event after learning that he was no longer needed by the team. Hence, Verstappen Jr. claimed that he was present at the Austrian GP to perform well. As a result, the Dutchman needed a good relationship with everyone present in the team.
And on the other hand, I'm here, of course, to focus on the performance side of things. So I want a good relationship with everyone.Max Verstappen added.
Regardless, such a scenario could’ve been avoided as pointed out by Max Verstappen after the incident. The team will surely look into the matter later and find out who was in the wrong. For the time being, the Austrian constructor will put all their focus on the ongoing Austrian GP.
But of course, this scenario could have been avoided.Max Verstappen concluded.
Red Bull’s struggling pace has crept through to Speilberg as well. Regardless, the 26-year-old scored the Sprint race victory and will likely score the pole position. The Austrian GP will put forth great excitement and racing action due to the short circuit with multiple DRS zones. As always, all eyes will be set on Milton Keynes to put forth the best results possible.
