Max Verstappen has been making strides in and outside the world of Formula 1. The Dutchman recently participated in the Nurburgring Nordschleife test with a detuned Porsche Cayman GT4. Verstappen successfully gained his Permit A license after meeting all the requirements and can potentially race in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. Despite trying out multiple categories, the Dutchman isn’t dreaming about achieving the coveted Triple Crown just yet.

The Motorsport Triple Crown consists of the three iconic races over different motorsport categories. The Monaco GP from Formula 1, the Indy 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fernando Alonso has already won in the WEC and achieved a podium finish at Indianapolis, and he just needs a win at the Monaco GP to finish his Triple Crown. Regardless, Max Verstappen might have a shot at the Triple Crown if he puts his mind to it.

Helmut Marko recently opened up on Max Verstappen and his potential debut at Le Mans. However, Verstappen will still need to succeed at the Indy 500 and WEC to achieve the title. Till now, only Graham Hill has successfully achieved the Triple Crown by winning all three. Although winning the title seems extremely lucrative and one of the final goals of a driver, Verstappen seems to be the least interested.

Max Verstappen bluntly declared that he was not interested in pursuing or even trying to achieve the Triple Crown. Although Verstappen pointed out that he enjoyed watching the IndyCar races. However, his interest was limited to just watching the races from his home and not actually participating in them, and trying to win. As such, achieving a triple crown might already be out of the question for the reigning world champion in F1.

Le Mans, yes, but I’m not interested in the Triple Crown. I enjoy watching IndyCar, but I do not need to drive it myself.

Max Verstappen still ‘mainly’ a Formula 1 driver

Max Verstappen has made his mark in multiple motorsport categories, and even sim racing alongside his own team, Redline, with whom he recently won the iRacing Daytona 24 hours. Now that Verstappen is trying out multiple categories, people are questioning his love for Formula 1. The Dutchman is already a reigning world champion in F1 and is among some of the greatest drivers.

As such, Max Verstappen clearly stated that he was still primarily a Formula 1 driver, no matter the tests and races he participated in outside the pinnacle of motorsport. The Dutchman continued that his outing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife was good as he enjoyed it a lot. Moreover, Verstappen wanted his Permit A for the GT3 category and had to race in the GT4 car at Nordschleife to obtain it.

I think I’m still mainly a Formula 1 driver for sure. What was it? It was good. I knew that I needed to get my permit, so I had to do that race in a GT4 car.

The 2025 season of Formula 1 has been very difficult for Max Verstappen. Still, Verstappen has given it his all and is continuing to put forth impressive performances. It would definitely be interesting to witness the Dutchman race outside of F1. Time will tell about what plans and categories the 27-year-old has on his wishlist as he looks promising of a Le Mans and a GT3 outing in the near future.
