Max Verstappen came into the US GP weekend with great enthusiasm and a positive-looking pace. The Dutchman was able to make massive strides in the drivers’ standings following his flawless execution in Texas.
Verstappen emerged victorious not only in the sprint race but also won the main race and walked out of the weekend with great points. Now, the reigning world champion opens up on the ‘unbelievable’ performance so far.
The US GP has remained one of the more successful races for Max Verstappen as he achieves yet another victory on American soil. The Dutchman had his own doubts of succeeding ahead of the race weekend, but a sublime weekend sweep has helped him remain extremely delighted by his results.
Now, the 27-year-old talked highly of the team’s pace and execution over the entire weekend that helped them achieve great results. Max Verstappen is just 40 points adrift of the championship lead to Oscar Piastri, which was in triple digits a few months back.
The reigning world champion is definitely a massive problem for Piastri and Lando Norris in their championship ambitions this year. As such, Verstappen looked back at the unbelievable weekend for the team in Texas. The 27-year-old acknowledged that he was aware that the race was not going to be as easy as ABC for him.
Moreover, Max Verstappen shed light on the fact that the pace difference between him and Lando Norris was super close, and the latter could have been a problem if there were any more laps in the race.
However, a great start to the race and consistent performance in the first stint helped Verstappen increase the gap on track and finally end his US GP weekend on an extreme high.
Yeah, it was an unbelievable weekend for us. I knew the race would not be super straightforward. The whole race, the pace between myself and Lando was super close. But in that first stint I could eke out a gap and that’s what I managed to the end.
Max Verstappen said in a post-race interview.
