The battle at the AHR circuit in Mexico saw an intense duel between championship leader Max Verstappen and title challenger Lando Norris. The outcome was mostly positive for Verstappen as he still leads by 47 points.

However, it was highlighted that the RB20 in Mexico had one of the worst performances this year just like Monza. The Dutchman’s father Jos Verstappen admits that his son would only follow this style of driving as the car is not faster.

The RB20 started the season with impressive speed, dominating races and securing vital points for Red Bull. However, as the season went on, the car began to show signs of performance decline. Issues like inconsistent tire behavior, setup challenges, and balance problems started to trouble the team.

At the Mexican GP, these issues again resurfaced resulting in a loss of speed. Jos Verstappen acknowledged that Max Verstappen‘s move on Norris was harsh, but stated that his son would still stick to the same strategy going forward.

Maybe it was a bit too much. But you can talk about it for a long time and in the end it won’t make any difference. Max will continue to drive as he sees fit. He is forced to do so because the car is not fast enough. And he certainly won’t change his driving style just because there are some stewards who don’t like his way of doing things.

Jos explained that British bias has existed since the days of Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher. Both former drivers, being Brazilian and German, faced criticism from English stewards for their actions.

Despite this consistent criticism, Schumacher and Senna achieved incredible success in their careers. Jos believes Max Verstappen should remain persistent and drive the way he feels is best to defend his title.

I reminded him that Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher were also often subjected to strange criticism from England.

Red Bull has already lost hope of regaining its top spot in the Constructors’ Sandings and it now sits third behind Ferrari. With four races and two sprints remaining, Verstappen needs to maintain his lead over Lando Norris to secure his fourth consecutive F1 title.
