Red Bull started the 2024 season off in great fashion. However, in the recent few race weekends, the team has failed to showcase a similar dominant performance. Additionally, Red Bull has already lost out on three races out of the eight total. Hence, Max Verstappen‘s father Jos Verstappen believes that the Austrian constructor might be unable to continue their dominance era.
The Monaco GP weekend was extremely excruciating for Milton Keynes. Max Verstappen‘s RB20 was very hard to drive around the circuit as he lost out on the pole position and then the race win. As a result, Jos Verstappen declared that Red Bull’s ‘era of dominance’ since the 2022 season will soon be over. Additionally, Verstappen Sr. called out the team to focus on ‘more important’ matters than other things.
The era when Red Bull had the dominant car really seems to be over now, Maybe they should start focusing a bit more on racing and mutual communication again, rather than on other things...Jos Verstappen said, as reported by De Telegraaf.
Apart from this, the Dutchman highlighted that there will be more races in the future where Red Bull will showcase their brilliance. However, this will take a lot of time and effort to ensure that the team stays at the top. Hence, Jos Verstappen claimed that he was ‘curious’ to see how this all fared for the Austrian constructor in the pinnacle of motorsport.
There will definitely be races where Red Bull will be in good shape again, but I am very curious to see how they are going to solve this. Something really needs to happen there.1Jos Verstappen added.
Jos Verstappen claims Max Verstappen able to ‘mask’ Red Bull’s degrading performance
Sergio Perez‘s performance showcased Red Bull’s degrading form much more than Max Verstappen’s performances. The Mexican driver failed to clear Q1 in Monaco as he started the race from behind. On the contrary, Verstappen still scored some decent results over the weekend, and the 34-year-old couldn’t score points, courtesy of the Lap 1 crash.
Max has still been able to mask that somewhat, but the big difference with Sergio Perez is becoming more and more obvious.Jos Verstappen noted.
Additionally, Jos Verstappen mentioned that Red Bull needed to figure out where the problem was rising from. According to Verstappen Sr., it was evident that the rival teams, especially Ferrari and McLaren were closing the window on the Austrian constructor. Hence, the team needed to pick the pace of the in-season upgrades and start scoring better results.
Red Bull needs to find out where this problem is coming from, because it is clear that teams like Ferrari and McLaren are getting closer.Jos Verstappen concluded.
Max Verstappen will continue to battle on the track to keep continuing his lead in the championship. The Dutchman hasn’t received a competition this close from any of the rival drivers in the past few seasons. Hence, the 2024 season is looking promising of giving a tough battle towards the end of the season between the top order of the drivers.
