McLaren Racing’s CEO Zak Brown has hinted at reuniting with Fernando Alonso following his stint with the Papaya Squad back in the day. Alonso was unable to achieve the picture-perfect career with McLaren in Formula 1, but Brown believes the veteran’s talents could be put to good use elsewhere. Now, the Englishman hints at a potential Indy 500 return for the two-time F1 champion.
Fernando Alonso linked up with Woking in 2007 alongside Lewis Hamilton and left at the end of that year. Moreover, the Asturian returned for the second time at McLaren from 2015 to 2016, which ended with disappointment as well. Now, Alonso, who is already close to achieving the motorsport’s triple crown, could return to the Indy 500, perhaps again with McLaren.
Notably, Fernando Alonso has three entries at the iconic Indy 500, all with McLaren in one way or another. Though Alonso achieved far from ideal results during his multiple entries. Now, Zak Brown hinted at reuniting with the Asturian as his contract with Aston Martin runs out at the end of the 2026 season as well.
Zak Brown revealed how it might not be Fernando Alonso’s final year in F1, despite his contract ending this year. However, Brown noted that he always talked about a potential Indy 500 entry for Alonso whenever he met him. Moreover, the Briton highlighted that McLaren had a realistic shot at achieving the victory at Indianapolis, with the two-time champion being very capable of winning at the Indy 500.
This is his last contractual year, it doesn’t mean he won’t continue [in F1], But I talk to him about it [the Indy 500] every time I see him. I think we’ve got a car that can win the Indy 500. I think he’s very capable of winning the Indy 500.
Zak Brown said, as reported by RacingNews365.
Zak Brown jokes about ‘bugging’ Fernando Alonso about Indy 500 entry
If Fernando Alonso manages to achieve a victory at the Indy 500, he will become one of the only two people to achieve the motorsport’s ‘triple crown’. Though Alonso has not revealed any plans to return to Indianapolis following his last entry in the 2020 season. Zak Brown is confident that he can make the two-time champion reconsider his decision and return to racing with McLaren in the iconic format.

Zak Brown recalled theprevious outings with Fernando Alonso in the Indy 500, claiming that he had fun with the F1 veteran. The 54-year-old declared that Alonso had enjoyed his outings except for one year in 2019, when he failed to qualify for the race. Regardless, the Asturian enjoyed his first outing, claiming it to be magical. As such, Brown joked that he would keep bugging the 44-year-old until he gave in to the request and raced in the Indy 500.
I thoroughly enjoyed racing with him here, he enjoyed it all but one of the years, He loved the first year, it was magic. I’d love to see Fernando back at the Indy 500 with us, and that is something I’ll continue to bug him about.
Zak Brown noted.
Fernando Alonso has yet to express his interest in racing for McLaren in the Indy 500 anytime soon. Still, Alonso is a true racer through and through and will certainly hope to achieve more in the motorsport world. For now, the two-time champion’s priority is to improve performances at Aston Martin and give it his all to the Silverstone-based constructor.
