Scuderia Ferrari last won an F1 world title in 2008. Since then, Maranello has shown glimpses of hope but could never convert chances into a championship victory. Fred Vasseur is a man on a mission, trying to turn things around. However, Vasseur has lost out on an integral piece of the puzzle.

Aero-genius Adrian Newey announced his exit from Red Bull earlier this year. This presented a perfect opportunity for Ferrari to finally sign the Englishman. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton’s Maranello arrival next season would’ve created a dream team for the Tifosi.

However, things did not go as planned for Fred Vasseur. The Frenchman claimed that he and Newey had different ideas. Ultimately, Aston Martin signed the aero-genius on a massive deal which included shares in the company.

Scuderia Ferrari has shown decent progress in the past year. The Italian team was the closest rival to Red Bull in the first couple of races. However, the team has lost out to McLaren in recent rounds. Nevertheless, Charles Leclerc’s Monza victory shows that it is on the right track.

Fred Vasseur has shown faith in his team and has stopped the infamous blame culture within Maranello. The groundwork laid down by the Frenchman was after all enough to lure Lewis Hamilton. The Italian team seems to be much more composed in recent months with less strategical errors.

On the development side, only time will tell how Ferrari performs compared to its rivals. Not having Adrian Newey would be a setback, however, the team can get past it and still develop a great car considering its ample resources.

Although from a PR standpoint, Newey’s absence disappointed many fans who wanted to see Lewis Hamilton work with the aero genius before his retirement. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how things pan out for Ferrari in the coming seasons.
