28-year-old Australian billionaire creates F1 history with recent $100 million worth Sauber takeover

The Formula One world is one which deals in billions of dollars and hosts the most premium parties and sees the most powerful personalities on Earth turn up for weekends filled in racing and adrenaline. And a 28-year-old Australian billionaire, Edward Craven, has now just recently stepped into this world with his latest investment into the Sauber F1 team. Recently, Sauber lost Alfa Romeo after a fruitful partnership with them for 5 years since 2018. And their new pair-up with Audi is scheduled for 2026. So, for the next two years, Sauber have landed a new title sponsor–Edward Craven’s Stake.

Stake is an online crypto-gambling platform whose empire has spread far and wide ever since it started off in 2017. As one of its co-founders, Edward Craven has shot up to the top of the list of the most successful businessmen in Australia even before hitting his 30s. And with his latest purchase of a percentage of the Sauber F1 team with a staggering amount of $100 million, he has become the youngest F1 team owner in history. While the entire team rights do not rest with Craven, he has already bought the naming rights and it is how Lawrence Stroll had once started off in F1 too.

But Craven is no foreigner to the sports business since his team, Stake, is the principal sponsor of two English football teams–Everton and Watford. Thus, it can very well be said that Melbourne native Edward Craven is a sports geek who has decided to enter into F1 with Sauber.

Sauber’s future partner Audi have eyes on a French F1 driver for joining their team

While Stake will be staying in the Formula 1 game for a couple of years with Sauber, the aim for the Swiss team is to smoothly transition into their Audi partnership that has been planned for take-off in 2026. And now, it has been said that Audi have their sights set upon Esteban Ocon, currently an Alpine driver, to join their campaign in Formula 1 once they step in. The French driver has impressed his fans in 2023 with his brilliant podium finish at the Monaco GP.

Meanwhile, Esteban Ocon and his current Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly‘s dynamics have been quite poor. The two French drivers were thick as thieves during their junior racing days, but their conflict started when they began to compete with each other. Recently, Gasly even claimed there is no such friendship between him and Ocon.

I will not say we’re friends – we don’t spend really much time together – but when we get to the track, this is work. And when we are at work, we are mature and responsible and we are delivering.
Pierre Gasly said about his dynamics with Esteban Ocon, via PlanetF1.

In other news, Esteban Ocon has been quite busy during the off-season in Formula 1 living it up with his new girlfriend Flavy Barla. The two have been inseparable ever since they officially appeared together at the 2023 Abu Dhabi GP. Meanwhile Pierre Gasly and his 19-year-old girlfriend Francisca Gomes have also been spotted on a vacation in Dubai where they danced and kissed at a nightclub ahead of the New Year’s Day.
