“Age is just a number,” Twitter reacts as Fernando Alonso tops rain-marred FP3; as Sebastian Vettel finishes P3
Fernando and Sebastian
Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel after FP3 in Montreal have just shown everyone what they can do when they have the right car balance under them.
The two veterans of the sport finished the rain-affected FP3 session of the Canadian Grand Prix in 1st and 3rd place respectively and it goes to show that the two former Champions still have what it takes to do well in the pinnacle of motorsports that is Formula One.
Social media has been buzzing since the end of FP3 and the talk of the town has shifted from Red Bull and Ferrari to Alpine and Aston Martin, all courtesy of the Alonso and Vettel.
Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel have been going great guns since Friday and today when most drivers struggled to put a decent lap in because of the treacherous conditions, Alonso and Vettel put steller laps that saw the Spaniard go top of the timing sheets whereas the German was up to third.
Alonso clocked in a time of 1:33:836 for the top spot whereas Vettel was only +0.055s behind the Spaniard in third.
Can Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel finish in the top 5 during Montreal qualifying?
During FP3 all the drivers were on wet weather tires and people like Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen, and Sergio Perez were not able to put in a competitive time and this came as a surprise to most of the F1 commentators.
The trio was nowhere near Vettel who was in third and it just goes to show how vital experience is, especially in a sport like Formula One.
Aston Martin and Alpine have looked strong in the wet weather conditions and it is expected that things are going to stay the same during Quali, given all this, Alonso and Vettel have got a serious chance of finishing Qualifying in the top 5 for their respective teams.
It would be great if the two could finish the Quali in the top 5 as it would give them the chance to finish on the podium during tomorrow’s Canadian Grand Prix.
But the question is will they be able to carry their FP3 form into Qualifying? What are your thoughts about it?
