Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are the only two drivers to have won a Grand Prix in 2023. The two drivers have dominated the grid with the mighty RB-19. Pressure has built upon Perez as he tries to match the reigning world champion with his father having high hopes in this battle. However, former F1 world champion Alain Prost hit out at the Mexican driver’s father.
The French driver was unhappy after reading about the comments of Antonio Perez. The senior Perez had compared his son’s rivalry with Verstappen to the great f1 rivalry between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. Prost slammed the Mexican and believed that such a comparison would only make it tougher for Checo on the track, who is already struggling to perform.
So much so that the former F1 champion called the remarks “pointless and counterproductive.” The 68-year-old was convinced that such a comparison does no good to Sergio, who is facing a formidable opponent. Prost’s rivalry with Ayrton Senna is regarded as one of the legendary driver rivalries in the history of the pinnacle of motorsport.

“Verstappen goes it alone,” Alain Prost
The French driver admitted that Sergio had delivered some decent results this year. However, Alain ruled out the Mexican driver in his battle with Max Verstappen. The 68-year-old believed that the two-time world champion was in a league of his own. Checo is just not capable of putting up an equal fight. Prost stated, “To me, it looks like Verstappen goes it alone.”
Sergio has struggled to match his Dutch teammate in the last few rounds of the season. The 33-year-old has only won 2 races so far compared to the 5 of the two-time world champion. The Mexican driver trails Max by 53 points just seven rounds into the season. As such, pressure is mounting on Checo’s shoulders to secure his position at Red Bull.
Thus, Alain Prost believes the battle between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will not become a legendary rivalry. The Frenchman insists that Verstappen has the upper hand in this fight and can go home with an easy victory. As such, it lies on Checo to prove the critics wrong and bounce back after a string of underwhelming performances.
