Sergio Perez, the Red Bull F1 driver, has had an average last few races and is trailing Max Verstappen by a decent margin in the Drivers Championship. Alain Prost, the former F1 World Champion, has been keeping track of the Mexican’s actions and, ahead of the Canadian GP, has asked him to stop talking about the Dutchman and focus on his driving.
Alain Prost, while giving advice to Sergio Perez, recently said, “I think now there is that separation in the points, that may actually take the pressure off him a little and the expectation he’s putting on himself. He needs to let go of that now and just be free to drive. A driver’s game is always to try and tip the balance in his favour, whether it’s the set-up of the car or the contribution of the team. And that’s where Perez is wrong.”
“He needs to make Max Verstappen doubt him and change Red Bull’s mind about him. As we know, Perez is tackling an almost impossible mission. And in order to achieve it, he must above all not shout so loudly about his desire to beat Max.” Prost has given an in-detail account of what he thinks about Perez’s prospects this year.
He ardently believes that it would be in the best interest of Sergio Perez to stop focusing on the exploits of Max Verstappen and start paying attention to the areas in which he has lacked so far in the season. While Prost feels it is nearly impossible to beat Verstappen, he still has given Perez a shot.
Sergio Perez has got a steep challenge ahead of him in the 2023 F1 campaign
The ongoing Formula 1 season is eight rounds down, with one event canceled because of heavy rain. Max Verstappen is comfortably leading the Championship and has put a decent gap between himself and his nearest rival, Sergio Perez. The 25-year-old has put on board 170 points in comparison to Perez’s 117.
Moreover, the Mexican starlet has not looked in the best of form in recent races, and it is looking very likely that Canada will bring a repeat of the same. However, while Sergio Perez has several doubters in the F1 paddock, he should consider Alain Prost‘s advice and just try to be free of any Championship burden.
There are still several rounds left in the ongoing campaign, and if he can get his act sorted ahead in the upcoming races, then there would be a chance of seeing a Perez comeback in the 2023 Drivers Championship fight. Otherwise, he would again be left seeing Verstappen lift another World Championship.
