Williams finished at the bottom of the standings in 2022. The Grove-based team made some big gains this year with Alex Albon scoring points on a handful of occasions. However, the team remained in the lower half of the F1 midfield. Now, Albon has claimed that the British team has focused on the 2024 season since the start of this year.

The Thai driver mentioned that the team used the 2023 season as preparation for next year. So much so, that Williams even used the pre-season test in 2023 to gain more knowledge for its 2024 campaign. However, Alex Albon admitted that only time will tell if this approach would bear fruit for the Grove-based squad.

This year, the only purpose was to prepare for next year. Since the winter tests we were already beginning to focus on next year. So time will tell, although it will not be all perfect immediately.

The 27-year-old highlighted that Williams took an aggressive path this season to experiment with ideas for next season. Alex Albon claimed that the British team gave up multiple practice sessions this season in order to understand the development for next year’s car. This could potentially put the Grove-based team in a good position for 2024.

We have been experimenting all this year, We have given up many Free 1 sessions to focus on set-up ideas and commitments for next year. We are putting ourselves in the best possible position.

Could Williams break into the front of the midfield in 2024?

Williams made impressive progress in 2023. The Grove-based team finished seventh in the standings with some great results by Alex Albon. The team has improved drastically with a new direction provided by Team Principal James Vowles. Vowles has a long-term plan for the British squad to make it a front-runner in F1 once again.

Subsequently, if Williams had focused on next year’s car from the start of 2023, it could reap benefits for the team. The Grove-based squad managed to make progress in 2023 despite being more concerned for next season. As such, Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant might find themselves with a decent midfield car for the upcoming season.

Williams would face challenges in 2024. Alex Albon might’ve scored consistently for the team. However, Logan Sargeant would need to deliver after an underwhelming debut season in the sport. Moreover, the Grove-based team would need to match rivals who have been working extensively over the winter. As such, it remains to be seen how things pan out for the British squad.
