“All Ferrari people must support Binotto”: Stefano Domenicali backs Mattia Binotto amid criticism

F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, has come to show some much needed support to Ferrari’s Team Principal, Mattia Binotto. Ferrari has come under increased scrutiny because of of their reliability issues and poor decision making. Charles Leclerc had a brilliant start to the season but has failed to come anywhere close to the standards set by him in the first half of the season.
The Monegasque driver was leading the championship from Max Verstappen by 46 points but lost that lead in matter of three races, which was shocking. The graph has seen a downward trend ever since. It’s not just Charles Leclerc who has to face the brunt of some sloppy decision making. Carlos Sainz has equally been on the receiving end of these decisions.
We saw another one of those instances in the Dutch GP when Ferrari committed a school boy error. The Spaniard was running third behind Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc and needed a quick pit stop to have any chance of challenging them. But, the Ferrari crew wasn’t ready with the tyres when he came into the pits and had to lose a ton of time.
Stefano Domenicali urges Ferrari to support Mattia Binotto
Decisions like these haven’t gone down well with the Tifosi and has attracted a lot of criticism. Stefano Domenicali has asked Ferrari to back Mattia Binotto. He said, “It is easy to criticise from both inside and out. But I believe that at the moment all Ferrari people must support Mattia Binotto.”
“After that, I do not allow myself to judge the choices that president John Elkann and Binotto will have to make to obtain the results they deserve.”
“For this big gap between first and second, we need to evaluate the specific role played by reliability and management.”
We have seen Ferrari squander a lot of opportunities in the past and this year has also been one of them. Yes, the Italian Giants have made progress but there’s a lot of work to be done.
