The AlphaTauri F1 team has always been the outfit that prepares its drivers for a potential move up to the main Red Bull F1 team. The lights of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz have both been on the team during their initial few F1 years and while they have moved on, AlphaTauri wants to keep their door open for Mick Schumacher’s.

AlphaTauri currently has a large pool of talented young drivers with Liam Lawson being in the running for next year’s seat. However, despite this, the Faenza-based team’s CEO, Peter Bayer, has indicated that there could arise a scenario in the upcoming years where Mick Schumacher is seen racing for his team.

While shedding light on the same recently, he said, as reported by Soymotor;

Sabine and I have known each other for many years thanks to the mentoring I received from Jean Todt, so I know the family. I think Mick is not in an easy situation at the moment because these decisions are made very quickly. I think we focus on our own youth academy, but in this sport, it is known. There is the challenge for Mick, to find a way to show that he has the speed.

Looking at the reaction of Bayer, it is quite clear that AlphaTauri is going to keep its options open regarding a potential tie-up with Mick Schumacher. However, he has emphasized that to get an offer from them, he would need to show some real pace.

Mick Schumacher will continue as Mercedes’ reserve driver for 2024

While AlphaTauri is not ruling out a potential tie-up with Mick Schumacher somewhere down the line, the latter will be seen in the Mercedes reserve driver/development driver role again this year. Moreover, he will also be seen driving an Alpine in the world endurance championship.

Schumacher is only 24 years old and thus, still has time to make a name for himself at the pinnacle of motor racing. But in order to do that, he would need to find a racing seat in the sport as soon as possible and make everyone realize that he is an extremely fast racing driver.

Mick Schumacher, being the son of legendary F1 driver, Michael Schumacher, has a huge burden on his young shoulders that he would have to carry for the rest of his racing career. Considering this, it will be in Mick’s best interest to find a permanent seat in F1 as soon as possible.
