Nyck De Vries has joined the Faenza-based AlphaTauri team this year, and its Technical Director, Jody Egginton, has praised the Dutch driver. He has indicated that De Vries’s experience is helping the team move its development targets forward. Everyone is pleased with him, and Eggigton feels he would be able to come up with better performances with more experience in the AT04.

Jody Egginton, while talking about the impact of Nyck De Vries at AlphaTauri, said, “Nyck has got a lot of experience. He’d only done one race in Formula 1 before joining us, but he’s got an awful lot of experience in other formulas and also experience testing and driving other people’s F1 cars. And his feedback’s good. He’s forming a clear picture of what he wants from the car as he learns the car.”

“And he’s helping us move the development forward, so it’s a big contribution already together with Yuki.” Looking at Egginton’s comments, it is quite clear that he and the rest of the crew at the Red Bull-sister team are more than happy with the impact that Nyck De Vries has made since joining the team.

So far, in the 2023 F1 season, AlphaTauri has managed to amass only one point and is currently 9th in the Constructors Championship. The team lacked pace in the first three races, and Egginton, while talking about improvements, said, “Both of the drivers have been quite clear on what the car is doing and what they want from it, and they’re reasonably well-aligned as well.”

That makes our development process slightly easier as we’ve got pretty common targets on both sides of the garage. With this update we’ve bought to the track, both of them have experienced it and both of them have got similar feedback. On top of all the data we gather that’s good as well because it means they’re both seeing the benefit from it. So far, so good in that respect.

Jody Egginton has given an in-detail account of the problems at AlphaTauri and has oozed confidence about having better performances in the upcoming races. However, the F1 midfield is incredibly tight this year, and despite the Italian team’s progress, it might not prove enough to become a nuisance for the heavy hitters in the midfield.
