VISA CashApp RB or V-CARB is the new soul of the Faenza-based manufacturer and has started its journey in the Formula 1 space by poaching members of other teams. The V-CARB new identity has led many people to speculate on whether the team would be a successful venture for their ultimate owner in the form of Red Bull.
The team’s newly appointed Principal, Laurent Mekies, takes the place of Franz Tost and would be crucial in leading the team to an all-time goal of finishing 5th in the constructor’s standings. To stay on track and make progress in the aerodynamics and other aspects of the car, the team has appointed several key position holders from various teams.
The appointments of Tim, Guillaume and Alan add a vast amount of winning expertise to the Team, and I have no doubt that they will help take the team to the next level in F1. We already have a very strong and hugely experienced group at the Team and bringing onboard highly-skilled individuals like Tim, Guillaume and Alan will boost our capability and help us meet the highest technical standards at Visa Cash App RB F1 Team, both at the factory and at the track.Mekies said in a press release, as reported by FormulaPassion.it.
Mekies is keen on how the team performs and has a positive outlook that new recruitments would certainly help in its growth and provide the drivers with a better car to showcase their skills. The new recruitments in the form of Tim Goss will join as chief technical officer in October following a spell as technical director at McLaren and Alane Permane joins the camp immediately after his separation from Alpine.
How did the leadership shift from Franz Tost to Laurent Mekies?
Ever since the team’s inception in the Toro Rosso days, Franz Tost was the man in charge of the Italian outfit. He saw the first win of Toro Rosso in the hands of Sebastian Vettel and nurtured young talents for the sister team of Red Bull like Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo, Alex Albon etc.
However, in July of 2023, it was announced that Franz Tost would be retiring from his position of team principal after spending 18 years doing this job and was going to be replaced by Laurent Mekies from the 2024 season onwards. Mekies was the Deputy Team Principal and Racing Director of Scuderia Ferrari and grabbed this opportunity to become the team principal of VISA CashApp RB.
Mekies joined the team this winter break and has introduced multiple key changes since then. He now handles the operations of the Faenza-based team and is now leading the way to outshine the team’s previous struggles.
