The 2022 Formula 1 season heads to the Imola Grand Prix in Italy for its fourth round. The Imola Grand Prix hosts the maiden sprint race weekend of the current season. The sprint race format views a change in rules and regulation this year. The prominent change being the top eight drivers being awarded points on Saturday in the sprint race. One of the drivers who is confident for this sprint format to work as an advantage for them is the Alpine F1 driver, Fernando Alonso.

Fernando Alonso has not had a convincing start to his 2022 season. The Spaniard has only managed to finish in the points once in three races. Fernando Alonso is in his second year of contract with Alpine F1 team, who finished 5th in the constructor’s championship last year. Last week out in Melbourne, Fernando Alonso showed an impressive pace of his Alpine car throughout the practice session. However, unable to capitalise on it in qualifying where he suffered a retirement. At the Imola Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso is looking forward to cover lost ground.

The Alpine F1 team has seemed to come with a stronger package than its mid field competitors. The French team currently sits 5th in the constructor standings and aims to fight the battle for the car development faster than its rivals. Fernando Alonso gave his views on the situation, sayingIn terms of performance, we seemed to be fairly consistent across the three circuits we have faced so far, which is a positive sign.”

The two time world champion, Fernando Alonso gave his views on sprint race weekend and Imola Grand Prix saying “It’s a difficult track, but not impossible for overtaking, so I hope to see some action on the field on Saturday and Sunday. There are a lot of points available on three Saturdays this year, and so I am confident that we can get away from here with a good haul of points”.

Fernando Alonso who finished the 2021 season ahead of his team mate, Esteban Ocon, currently trails the Frenchman by 18 points. However, the Spaniard aims to be opportunistic at the Imola Grand Prix where a 34 points are available for a sole driver.
