The Williams Formula 1 team has decided to withdraw Logan Sargeant from the upcoming Azerbaijan GP sprint race. This has come in light of his huge crash during the recently concluded Sprint Shootout. The American crashed out of the SQ1 session when he hit the barrier coming out of Turn 15.

After the incident, there were doubts about whether he would be able to take part in the upcoming Sprint race, and the Williams F1 team and F1 have just confirmed the news. This is a major blow for the young American in his rookie year at the pinnacle of motor racing. Before his unfortunate incident, he looked solid to at least make it into SQ2.

After the Sprint race, the FIA released a statement that said, “The Stewards have received a request from Williams Racing to withdraw Car 2 from the Sprint following the Sprint Shootout incident.” Logan Sargent went into the barriers at high speed, and the way his rear was torn after the incident, it makes sense from the Wantage-based team’s point of view to withdrawing the young driver from the sprint race.

Sargent, on his incident, said, “Obviously, it’s my job to not put it in the wall so I’m sorry to the team for that and the damage that I caused but I feel like the people in front of me could have helped me out a little bit,” Through his comment, he has referred to the Ferrari drivers who blocked his way a bit while he was coming out of Turn 15.

The Williams F1 team, since landing in Azerbaijan, has looked quite strong in comparison to the other heavy hitters of the sport, and this is one of the main reasons why Logan Sargeant is extremely disappointed with missing out on the Sprint race. While he has missed out, the other Williams driver, Alex Albon, will start his sprint race in the Top 10.

Sargent, despite his incident, was a bit optimistic about making it for the sprint race, and after his crash, he further said, “It was pretty heavy. A lot of work for the boys, so again, I feel bad about that. But I know they’ll be working as hard as they can, and I’ll keep looking at what I can do better for this afternoon. I feel like we had really good speed in it, and to end it like that its pretty bad.”

Looking at Logan Sargeant’s comments, it will be an extremely bitter pill to swallow for him seeing his teammate Alex Albon racing during the upcoming sprint race. Considering everything that has happened so far in Baku, how do you see Alex Albon performing during the upcoming Azerbaijan Sprint race?
