Andretti aims to “build a true American F1 bid” with General Motors through Cadillac in their pursuit to join F1 as the 11th team
Andretti
Rumours of Andretti joining F1 have always been consistently omnipresent in the paddock with the man himself being pretty vocal about his ambition to establish an American F1 team. While the rumours were not credible back then, today’s news seems to have massively increased the chances of the sport getting another American F1 team when the 2026 rule and regulation changes come into play.
Andretti’s announcement came a while after FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem wrote a tweet stating that him and the FIA will be open to Expressions of interest from teams that want to join the pinnacle of motorsport and that’s when the drama started brewing. While everyone was aware of the American Motorsport outfit’s interest in joining the sport, the news of Cadillac coming into play was a surprise.
With the US playing host to 3 races in the 2023 F1 calendar( Miami, Austin, Las Vegas) , it is abundantly clear that the fanbase for the pinnacle of motorsport is huge in the country. With Haas being the only American team on the grid, this might change in a few years as we might finally get a second American team. Cadillac and Andretti will make an offer to the FIA that would almost be irresistible.
Andretti is excited to have General Motors and Cadillac as partners
Here is what Andretti had to say in an official statement. “I am proud to have General Motors and Cadillac alongside us as we pursue this goal. We now have the opportunity together to combine our passion and commitment to innovation and to build a true American F1 bid.” He said. With this news breaking out, there will be several others fighting in order to get that 11th spot on the grid.
General Motors president Mark Reuss further added: “GM is honoured to have this partnership with Andretti Global at this historic moment in racing. […] Cadillac and F1 both have growing global appeal. Our brand has a motorsports pedigree that’s more than a century in the making, and we would be proud to have the opportunity to bring our distinct American innovation and design to F1.”
It will be exciting to see how the situation progresses as Andretti and Cadillac try to cut a deal with the FIA in order to have a place on the Formula 1 grid as soon as possible. Their entry will make the US F1 fanbase grow even more. Ever since Drive to Survive premiered in America, the love for the sport has been increasing at an alarming rate each season.
